ETH Zurich (ETHZ) 2022 - Admissions and ESOP/ETH-D decisions

Hi everyone!

 

I started this forum so we can keep each other posted on Admissions and ESOP/ETH-D decisions.

I applied to the MSc in Data Science. 

 

I heard that decisions are usually send out around end of February. Has anyone received it?

Hi, there.

I am the one who have also made comments under the one who acclaimed to receive the application offer in Data Science.

I applied to the MSc in RSC, EEIT and ME.

I still haven't received any decision letter and I heard that people used to receive that by the end of Feb or the beginning of March.

Also applied for Data Science MSc, still no updates.

Applied on the day the portal opened, received the notice of evaluation like 7 days later, my status now is still 'Evaluation'.

Should be reveiving the admission decision on mid-Feb or little later? If you also applied for ESOP, the interview should come even earlier with some oral informations.

I have also received no updates as of now. Application still in "Evaluation" status (D-HEST). All the best to everyone!

Does anyone know if ETH interviews CS MS/Direct doctorate applicants?

After checking 2021 thread I found that some people received interview invitations at this time. I'm feeling a little bit nervous.

I applied for Data Science MSc as well. People say that data science MSc is extremely competitive. I haven't considered applying for computer science msc and I kinda regret it.

I also applied to Micro and Nanosystems MSc. Still haven't heard from them! I almost applied to ME, but last-minute decision change. Does anyone know if this is a competitive program? I have really no idea.

Looks like every program they offer isn't easy to get in, they really love high GPA.

I just found this forum, thanks for setting it up! I'm an ETH student and happy to see people around the world getting interested in Zurich

I don't think you have to worry about you're application if you have not received any information yet, we started our exams this Monday and people tend to be very stressed in the beginning of those weeks... 

And some bad news: I spoke with the study advisor of my program in November and she said that ETH won't offer any ETH-D scholarships this year due to financial reasons, they'll only offer ESOP. That might have changed in the 3 months since though...

That is a huge bummer actually.. Considering only like 0.5% of applicants get ESOP and ETH-D was the more accessible one. In my application it did mention the application is for both ESOP and ETH-D as far as I remember, so it is sad they are not actually doing ETH-D, if what you are saying is correct ? 

I know about the whole EU-Switzerland problem resulting in departure of Swiss institutions from access to EU funds, but you would still expect ETH to have a strong enough budget to give some partial work-based scholarships like ETH-D like most top institutions

I can't remember being asked about ETH-D in my application to be honest, but that doesn't mean anything... If you look at your application in the eApply tool of ETH, it should say "(Name of your masters program), ESOP". I assume if they would offer ETH-D, it would say "(Name of your program), ESOP/ETH-D", but that's pure speculation. Furthermore, I checked the webpage about the scholarships for the master degrees and there isn't anything related to ETH-D, just ESOP and a few documents from 2016.

I agree that cancelling ETH-D scholarships isn't what you would expect from a university with ETH's prestige. If you look at all the money that the federation puts into ETH, I honestly can't imagine supporting students with 10k CHF per semester is what will cause them financial problems. But again, that's just from my point of view as a bachelor student and I have absolutely no clue about ETH's finances. I guess that's just the way it is and we'll have to deal with it

You are right, I guess I just spent so many hours on secondary sources about ETH scholarships and there it is always mentioned as ESOP/ETH-D, so I guess I just remembered that was the case with application too. Apparently not, it does only say ESOP. Things just got harder : ) best of luck to everyone.

No, I don't know more than you I fear. But as azzazz saw someone getting an invitation for an interview, I guess you might hear from them during the next weeks. The decision for getting into the masters program might be out by the end of february, decision for ESOP mid-march (at least that's how it was in the last few years).

Getting an interview is certainly a good sign for your application. But there have also been students receiving an ESOP without having the interview. So it might just depend on your program, maybe yours doesn't even do interviews... Having that said, don't panic if you don't hear from them until mid-february

Hi, I was wondering that too. Too much silence. Haven't heard of any updates. Just one person posted regarding ESOP  interview invitation a week before. OP's studying  Environmental sciences with a major in Atmosphere and Climate.
