ETH Zurich (ETHZ) 2022 - Admissions and ESOP/ETH-D decisions

Hey everyone!

I got admitted to the MSc on Integrated Building Systems, and took the ESOP interview last week. I think it would be nice to share a recent mail I received from the professor who interviewed me as it should apply to other programmes:

A quick update regarding the ESOP scholarship evaluation process. I’ve been informed the Financial Aid Office meets March 14th, and then will provide all departments with their decisions shortly afterward. This means I will be in touch again to inform you individually whether you have received the ESOP scholarship by the end of March.

Hey there guys, glad to see that there are people in the same boat as me... (stressing non-stop about the admission and the ESOP). I applied for the MSc in Environmental Sciences but have been treated with radio silence ever since December.

Does anyone know if you can get the ESOP without research experience? I am top of my class, have excellent grades and have field experience (internships), but as we know, that's not enough. I feel like I never really had the opportunity to work on publishable research with my professors or work on a project of my own (with the objective of publication) during my degree...

Has anyone that applied to the MSc in Environmental Sciences been accepted but without being asked for an interview? I gather that the long waiting time either means that I'm a very controversial candidate or that  they've lost my application papers somewhere. Anyways, good luck to you guys!

Congratulations!

Can you reveal your initials? I heard that ethz sent decisions in alphabetical order.

has anyone heard anything about the msc in chemical and bioeng? any rejects/accepted/offer/anything? how are your hopes?

I haven't heard anything yet either. They give out decisions around 20th Feb every year, don't know what's happened this time around. My hopes are decent, every year the top applicant from my institute gets in, it's me this time, but I'm still scared.

I saw that last year loads of answers came out in the 10th of March. Not particularly to Msc chemeng but to many of the masters. the e-mail that we received said early March, so I assume that pre-10th again we all should know. good luck to us!

Rejected from cs direct doctorate, admitted for ms instead. My last name starts with "Y". Probably won't be accepting the ms offer because i have a phd offer from a us school.

Oh great. If you dont mind me asking would you have chosen ETH over an US college. I am in the same boat and I have to choose between CMU and ETH albeit both are masters. Thanks

My area is kinda small and specific, I would choose ETH simply because of research interest match. Fun fact: CMU don't even have people that matches all my research interests XD. I definitely acknowledge I have my weak points and I am not a perfect candidate, but I couldn't help wishing ETH could be like EPFL and accept more direct PhDs! The competition for DD is crazy.... Well I guess it's not meant to be.

For your situation, both schools are great for machine learning. CMU might be slightly better. Where are you from? If you are not european, US is also better for getting an industry job.
