nicolesunflower Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Hi! Was hoping to get some advice as I make a decision on where to attend for my MSW fall 2022. I have been admitted to Berkeley, UCLA, and SDSU. I currently live in LA, and want to live in southern california long term in my career. UCLA ($25,360/year) and Berkeley ($19,968/year) are significantly more expensive than SDSU ($9,570/year), and I am leaning towards SDSU for this reason. But am not sure if the rigor/accomplished faculty at the other schools are worth paying more for. Thank you! gradapplyje 1
starmie Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 For what it's worth, I usually see the advice in the social work subreddit that you should go to the cheapest school because one accredited SW program is not significantly better than another, your internship is more important, and SW jobs don't care where you went to school. Here's a thread discussing it: AlvaD and gradapplyje 2

I had a friend that was in the UCLA MSW program for 1 year, and has applied to transfer to CSUN because she said, financially, it isn't worth it to stay there. Just some food for thought, she is just 1 person. However, I've also been told by employers that the school doesn't necessarily matter, just the accreditation. If finances are the biggest concern between the three, maybe go with your instincts at SDSU. gradapplyje 1
