I just got an interview for SVA in Fine Arts in Painting!!

I applied to: RISD, Yale, Hunter, SVA, Columbia, Pratt, NYU, and MICA

A bit worried about RISD because I accidentally wrote "New York" in my statement instead of RISD so I feel like they automatically kicked me out :(

I’m still waiting for a word from SVA but I’m thinking my application was considered late because I didn’t realize I needed to submit my statement in the application and slideroom and didn’t submit it in the application till 5 days after the deadline… ?

has anyone heard from bard, yale, risd and columbia for painting? I saw someone said on thursday they got a painting interview has anyone else heard back ?

I applied to Yale (Painting/Printmaking), Cornell (Creative Visual Arts), and Columbia (Painting) this year. Last year, Yale interview invitations/rejections were sent Feb 1, Tuesday evening, so I'm guessing it will be sent out early Feb again this year. They've been pretty consistent with this timeline in past years. You should be receiving status updates in the application portal for interviews and final decisions.

Columbia sent out interviews around Feb 15 last year (with decisions sent out in April, I believe).

Not sure if anyone else has applied for Cornell, but a former MFA student told me they interviewed in March and was accepted in April, similar to Columbia's timeline.

Also anyone else noticed how this forum is MUCH quieter this year? Either there are less applicants this year for some reason or people are less engaged in this forum.

It feels less active right now but last year this time we were only on page 9 or 10 and it got up to 67 pages so we’re just riding the crest of this wave right now!

Has anyone received interview invitations from the following?

1. Rhode Island School of Design: Textile MFA

2. Parsons School of Design: Textile MFA

3. Fashion Institute of Technology: Fashion MFA

4. Royal College of Arts: Textile MFA + Fashion Design Womenswear MFA

5. London College of Fashion: Fashion MA

6. Central Saint Martins: Textile MA

7. UAL Chelsea: Textile MA

Personal Background info: International students, currently enrolled at Parsons School of Design Fashion BFA, 7.5 for IELTS, studied within the U.S. for high school and middle school.

I didn't receive any email from the schools above, nor did my classmates at Parsons. (Parsons fashion MFA department was quite well-known for "NOT accepting the admissions from the BFAs") Please let me know if you have something relevant to my quote.

I hope everyone will receive an offer from their dream schools! Wish everyone good luck! (My name is Camille btw)

Hey all, just discovered this resource and wish I had found it last year when I applied to (and was summarily rejected from) several programs. Anyways, I did some regrouping and am feeling a bit more optimistic this year. I have applications out for:

  • Cornell (Visual Arts)
  • SAIC (Painting)
  • Tyler (Painting)
  • The New York Academy of Art (Painting)
  • Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art
  • RISD (Painting)
  • NYU (Studio Art)
  • VCU (Painting/Printmaking)

Would love to hear if anyone has any experience with any of these schools (especially the Academy). Also I did just have my Tyler interview yesterday which ended up being very interesting. I prepped for a lot of the usual/general questions people seem to expect but only got asked one (Why pursue an MFA/Why Tyler?) and the rest of the interview was guided by very specific questions about anecdotes from my recommendations, what discourse I was engaging with, and what books and film I felt informed my practice.  It was my first interview I've ever done and I'm feeling hopeful!

Anyways, good luck to everyone out there.

Hey! I just found this awesome forum and thought I'd share my apps as well. I've applied to nine MFA or MA programs in graphic / communications design:

  • RISD
  • YALE
  • MICA
  • Boston University
  • Tufts (SMFA)
  • Suffolk
  • Pratt
  • SVA
  • Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts

I was accepted into Suffolk on the 16th! I've also got an interview for SVA tomorrow (heard back via email on the 27th) and with Tufts February 7th (notified through email on the 18th). Waiting to hear back from everywhere else. It's my first ever time interviewing so I'm feeling excited and very nervous right now... Good luck everyone!! :)

I just interviewed with SVA Fine Arts yesterday and it was pretty laid back and conversational! Also applied to Pratt but no word from them yet. Good luck!! ?

Hi everyone this is my first post here. I just found this forum recently and I’m so grateful to stumble across it. I applied to painting/visual art programs at SAIC, Yale, Columbia, Boston University and Rutgers. Haven’t heard anything yet. Good luck to everyone!

Just got an interview invite for RISD graphic design!! Heck! I honestly thought I'd get rejected because there were so many mistakes in my application lmfao

Edit: Does it hurt me if I do the interview over Zoom versus in-person? I'm broke and I work full time so it's hard to take time off.

Hey new past lurker to the forum-

Didn't get an interview with Northwestern but didn't get a rejection either - expecting a rejection since some of you got interviews but was surprised they didn't send both acceptances and rejections at the same time or within the same week?

I'm in the same boat with Northwestern (art practice and theory). From my experience applying last year, it seems like schools don't send out rejection letters until everything is all set with the applicants they've extended offers to. The rejection letters I got were pretty late in the application cycle unfortunately.

It's so exciting to see more folks finding this forum!

I had 3 interviews this past week and have one more coming up on Friday. I wanted to share a little recap for any future applicants lurking in this forum or folks who haven't interviewed yet.

UMN Twin Cities: request 1/24 for an interview 1/25. Interview strictly timed at 10 minutes and they asked pretty standard questions. I personally felt the interview was far too short and didn't allow for a two-way conversation where I could get to know them.

IU Bloomington (print): request 1/24 for an interview 1/27. Longer interview time, about 25-30 min. Standard interview questions very similar to UMN Twin Cities. Really welcoming and supportive atmosphere– I think I could see myself going here!

UT Knoxville (print): Received a request 1/19 for interview 1/29. 20 min interview that ended up going until almost 30 min. This interview was much more intense for me. It was clear they had really spent a lot of time with my work and my application and almost all of the questions were specific to me & my work. Impressive yet challenging. I'd be shocked if I receive an offer since they told me they are interviewing 10 applicants and I've only seen them admit 1-3 in print each year. They also did mention that sometimes students are admitted but without an assistantship which surprised me since I was under the impression that all their students were funded.

I'm curious to know if anyone has any experience with Tyler's painting program, out of the schools I applied to it's the only one I hadn't visited or had contact with. Also, I did tour and/or interact with students/faculty/alum at PAFA, NYAA, Cornell, SAIC, and VCU this past fall if anyone has questions about those!
