Danny_Epi Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I am an international student applying for PhD epid Fall 2011. I would like to know whether there are any others like me. Any wise thoughts about international students prospects for admission and funding for PhD? Hi there, I am in the same boat. International applicant. Applying PhD in Epi for Fall 2011. my understanding is that the funding is really limited and the slots for international students are also limited.....so fingers crossed Till now, I still have not heard anything from schools, not even interviews what's so ever.... have you guys heard anything yet?
PrevMed Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I applied to WashU in Public Health Sciences. WashU's resources  and knowledge of the faculty are first rate.
jcandy Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I applied to Epi at UC Berkeley, although not sure it was the right program for me. Have not heard anything back, looks like it's taking longer for the Public Health people to roll out some decisions!
epi_man Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 Just here to update that I have been admitted to U of Pittsburgh and U of Texas at Houston. UNC, USF did me interviews but not sure how things will work out eventually... Ejected by WashU...location there is great so the competition is strong! Still waiting for UC Berkeley, Hopkins and UCLA!(Any one got decision from these schools?) Funding for international students is really tight.... Wish everyone good luck here

epidemic Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) epi_man, did you get a GSR position at Pittsburgh? I have no news on funding yet. Edited February 23, 2011 by epidemic
epi_man Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 epi_man, did you get a GSR position at Pittsburgh? I have no news on funding yet. They provided me some info for that and asked me to contact my advisor, for international student, admission and funding is not automatically linked.. Mind if I ask what concentration will you focus on for your PhD?And which country do you come from? Good luck!!
epidemic Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 They provided me some info for that and asked me to contact my advisor, for international student, admission and funding is not automatically linked.. Mind if I ask what concentration will you focus on for your PhD?And which country do you come from? Good luck!! I am from a developing country and I don't want to share my concentration as the admission process is not complete yet. No info on funding still. Do you have any other acceptances with funding? Do you know of any university which would automatically fund all accepted students(including internationals) - maybe I will try next year Received rejection from UNC too today.Only Berkeley left. I dont think there's any hope there either...
