  1. Don't know, but I would guess email. In terms of stream, this is from the department that houses both streams, I can never remember the name.
  2. the top ranked candidates have been notified. Everyone else is just waiting around.
  3. sounds about right..in any case, decisions will be out in a week.
  4. Yeah seriously, although waiting still sucks. I applied for the PhD in behavioural sciences, or whatever its called.
  5. seems healthy to me to discredit an entire city for no apparent reason
  6. Don't fret, apparently the social and behavioural sciences is the only department not to have finished their acceptances (Health Promotion Masters comes under that department I think). I
  7. Yes! Called the department a few days ago, and told that only rejection letters have been sent, so sometimes it works in reverse.
  8. If you want higher grades go to the easier school, if you want well known school go to the more prestigious school. I think it's obvious which one is which. Big city vs university town. Both have their benefits. If you plan on doing a PhD or med school after you probably want higher grades. I don't know which one is "better" but whatever choice you make it will be the right one. Good luck.
  9. Called U of T Dalla Lana today, they have sent out all the rejection letters. If you don't get one it means you are likely on a waiting list or a list of people they don't want to reject just yet, as acceptances have also been sent out. So more waiting around just to be rejected at a later time. Good luck everyone.
  10. you should definitely tell them about external funding, speaking to someone who sits on a graduate enterance committee, I was told that most profs would at least look at your proposal/application package again if you had external funding - seriously, no harm! go for it!
  11. U of T is crazy as heck, my partner was outright rejected from U of T and two months later received a fully-funded spot. That is so unbelievably lame. Anyway, he was already accepted to another school, but it kind of shows you the level of disorganization at the school. However, saying that, I did apply and waiting to hear back!
  12. So acceptances went out for my top program two weeks ago; just saw someone get rejected on the board. Gearing up for the rejection email now. I just don't understand why the school tells you it's still under review when clearly my application package is being used as a makeshift coffee cup holder, with my name and credentials smeared out by coffee stains. Oh joy. Sorry to be a downer, but I've had enough of this. Too bad I also applied for a Canadian University, the torture won't end until June 1st.
  13. If this were only true...just saw the results board, other people have contacted one of the programs, all acceptances sent out already, unofficial rejection. Ah. At least I will know for next year, it's tough! didn't realize this would be such a process.
  14. The Harvard Society, Human Development and Health program accepted someone last Friday, according to the results board, and by looking at the other Harvard Public Health programs, if you don't get an email the first time around, you're likely going to be rejected the following week. I've noticed that's the case with most programs actually, so, in the case of PhD applications, probably not good to hold onto any hopefully feelings once you see an acceptance, at least in Public Health! Best of luck to everyone.
  15. From the results board (looking at last years stats and other harvard programs) not being admitted the first week is likely to mean a rejection the following week. C'est la vie.
  16. it appears someone was accepted from the results board
  17. I think U of A, St. Andrews, Glasgow and Edinburgh are all well respected. I think teaching/TA appointments is dependent on need and if the student is interested (some are not and only interested in research). Best to get in touch with your supervisor and sort that out, if you're interested I can't see why the can't accommodate. I think they expect you to have done the class work in your Masters, which is why there's no classes.
  18. Uh thanks, I hope that my application gets through and not what you just described.
  19. Recommended - which just means they have all my docs. There a legend link to the left of the word status that's not obvious and easy to miss. They haven't even reviewed it yet! Otherwise it would say "recommended and reviewed". Anyway I emailed them with a question and basically results will be emailed on the 15th as well as posted on their website, don't think you'll find out any earlier than that.
  20. Canadian universities are notoriously late with their decisions, the program I applied for had an application due date of jan 15, which is a month later than most schools. I wouldn't worry to much I applied for one but likely won't hear back until April.
  21. I think love is once in a lifetime thing, grad school will always be there (excuse the cheesiness). My husband and I have been moving around for each other for the past 4 years and it gets tiring. Unfortunately you have to consider the fact that if you get into a phd program and move, in 5-6 years you'll have to move again for your post-doc while your partner is getting settled into her job; and then 2 years later move again for another post doc or job or whatever. I am not saying this to disparage, it's just everything I have considered for my life. That and I want to choose the city i live in, I have lived in so many places and nothing beats a city (personal opinion). Grad school is not intrinsically satisfying, at least not as much as spending time with a person you love. If I don't get in to my programs this year then I going to spend the rest of my time getting a job where I can have evenings and weekends off to hang out with said partner. For me, there will always be another phd somewhere or another, it's not the most important thing. Everyone chooses their own path, good luck!
  22. Agree with cranberry, depends on the field but I don't think that after a British phd you will be less of an expert, it's a bit narrow-minded in my opinion.
  23. I work in Scotland at a University, and the thought of a full-funded, 3 year PhD sounds brilliant. Although I don't work in Anthropology (although I've done Anthro before) I don't find things to be that different - it really depends on how you get on with your supervisor, but you will likely get very little advising from your supervisor, it's very independent here, no classes (which I also think is brilliant) - you will meet when you have things to discuss, concrete problems to troubleshoot, etc. Good luck. P.S. feel free to message me if you want; I would've done my PhD in the UK for sure.
  24. What's up with the one rejection from this program on the results board? is that for the Masters?
