I'm currently going through tons of old GRE verbal sections, and was wondering if anyone has experienced repetition of questions they remember practicing on old exams?

I have not, as far as I remember. Even if some questions repeat, the chance that you will have the same question (even one!) on the real test as you have seen in old GRE tests is veeeeeeeery low.

Are you going through the ones from the "Big book" download for which I provided the link in another thread?

I've wondered this, too, but I'm pretty sure not a single one will come up, especially since these old verbal sections are from when the exam included a multiple-choice Analytical section (with logic games and argument analysis).

Thought I would chime in on this one! I took the GRE twice (July/August of this year) and on the August exam I had a reading comp that I had definitely seen before. For the life of me I couldn't remember if it had been on the July exam or on one of my practice exams but let me just say, it didn't help one GD bit that I had it again. I couldn't remember what the correct answers were (which leads me to believe it was either from the July exam where I obviously never got to see the correct answers or possibly, I had been careless in going over my mistakes in practice exams) so I obviously chose the same answers, for better or worse! So frustrating! I almost would have rather had a different reading comp because all I could think about while I was answering was, WTF I'VE HAD THIS BEFORE!!!

Not sure if this is common, but figured I'd share my experience anyway!

I took GRE 2 November and I studied a lot for Verbal. I have to say that I got 3-4 questions the same to what I had in the practice books and yes, even one question from the powerprep. That was mighty weird :> I strongly recommend buying few books and learning a lot of words, making lots of exercises. That is the key :)

Wow, that's nice to hear. I should practice more examples. I should brush up my guessing skill.

I wasted so much of my time just trying to figure out the exact meanings of those vocabs.

honestly people, i swear, i encountered zero words that i had studied/memorized. so i don't know if you should really rely on this repetition situation. or perhaps little luck is what i lacked!

drifting sideways a bit, i personally think it's in the applicant's best interest to determine how much emphasis the program puts on gre scores. depending on what type of program you are applying to (liberal arts vs science, and anything in between), the weight of gre largely varies. i am some biology student, and i know that the programs i apply to want to see that i do well on the math section than the verbal. of course, doing well overall wouldn't hurt either. moreover, and needless to say, the programs want to see that you have strong academic record and research skills.
