wow ..guys....I just found this thread, I've been dwelling in life sciences thread, anyway

UCSD pre-apps bumps me out as well. out of 400....

apparently, there're

tfung15 from Canada,

alleycat393 from UK,

fall2011biomed from India

ash09 from Austria

me from Singapore

Interesting share of geographic diversity

most of the grad schools in alleycat393 list is the same as me. :D

Oh I'm Indian though not British....not that my nationality should make a difference more than where my degree is from-either which way I'm international in the US

Hey guys,

just had a doubt-

the mail from UCSD says

'this program accepts only one or two international applications out of approximately 400 each year'. Do they mean they accept 400 international pre apps from which they choose 1-2candidates for interview after their final app review. or does it mean they only select 1-2 international pre-apps from around 400pre-apps.

Im asking this because, if it were the former then I would think there are nearly 400 international students who are very competitive.

I would think that they approve only 1-2 preapps out of 400 and then choose to either admit one both or none. They took so long to review the preapps when they were approving American preapps within a fews days of submission so I think they were looking at international preapps more closely.

Hey ash09,

I think you are big competitor for me.Im applying to nearly the same schools.

1. HARVARD bbs

2.Columbia

3. UC,Berkeley

4.UCSF

5.ucla

6.Southwestern,dallas

7.Albert Einstein college of med

8.Mt Sinai

Im from India.Since your from austria, just want to know how good you think is the University of Innsbruck.

hey, I don't want to think about competition - let's just hope that all of us will find a nice place :)

University of Innsbruck is not bad, it's just nothing special. Austria is a small country, and we don't really have prestigious elite universities. but then, Uni Graz for example has an excellent reputation for lipid metabolism.. so it depends on the research focus..

Do you know someone who wants to apply in Innsbruck, or do you consider it yourself? location is beautiful - in the mountains, lots of snow ;)

I think we should stay in contact about our applications, such as when do you hear from the schools about interviews etc..

hey guys. i also got rejected. taking 1 or 2 in 400 is pretty crazy if you ask me... haha. i imagine there must be a legitimate reason behind that, possibly because of extremely limited funding for international students. like ash mentioned it would have been nice if they had a chance to check out our LORs and SOP because that will definitely play a big role in their decisions imo. on the other hand, it is nice to save some money from not paying the application fee.

other schools im applying to:

U of Washington

UCSF

Stanford

UC Berkeley

U of Penn

U of Chicago

Columbia

Mount Sinai

Weill Cornell

honestly, i really dont know what my chances are in any of these schools but you never know unless you try.

where are you guys located? i'm from Vancouver, Canada.

good luck to everyone with the rest of your apps!

Hey, Good luck.....I dunno how many rejects I'll have in the end......counting UCSD BMS.....m in the US now
