There is a professor who needs statement of interest. I don't know much about the difference between statement of interest and pursonal statement.

I would say that a statement of purpose and a statement of interest is more or less the same thing. Like, you know, it is also called personal statement, letter of intent and statement of goals. May be there are some more names for that.

I would ask the profesor what he/she means by that.

On the other hand, 100 words for a personal statement is too few... Better as the professor!

I think that Strangefox is right, ask the professor. But my take on 'statement of interest' with only 100 words is that they probably just want to know what your research interests are in terms of what you want to be doing in graduate school, not about your past experience or future plans beyond the degree.

Yes. I have asked one of his students and replied that only interest is needed in the statement of interest.
