Well, I guess as long as it's not switching between Comic Sans and Wingdings it's alright? Haha. You're right, everything about that is weird. Thanks for the info! I had just started to think "Well, there's no way they'll send anything out this weekend...breathe easy for a day, old chap" and am shifting to "oh no, why haven't I received a mysterious email from an associate prof with unrelated powerpoints?"

Seriously though, congrats on the acceptance and thanks for filling me in on the details. This...is the....longest....month....ever.

hahaha thanks, and seriously, don't worry. if they're sending out bizarro emails that are missing so much information, i don't think that they can be close to having notified everyone. but yeah, i know what you mean--now we have to be on edge on the weekends too?! that's just unfair.

and by far the most agonizing thing is looking at the results page and seeing that people have been admitted to schools to which you applied, but you haven't heard anything. at least they could grace us all with rejections off the bat! i'm starting to think that ad comms are all just a bunch of sadists.

100% agree, and thank you. It would be easier if there were some consistency between the schools, i.e. all deadlines on Dec 15th, rejections go out on Feb 1st, acceptances and waitlist notifications on Feb 8th. This is my first time going through this, and so far I most appreciate the early responders. Even if it's a rejection, I'm able to think to myself, "Hey, at least you didn't leave me agonizing over things out of my control for an extra month. And for that, Insert University Name, I thank you."

I was also rejected from Wisconsin.

I have two masters degrees (economics/political science) and I'm working on publishing a paper. On top of that, great GRE scores and a high GPA for all my studies/previous programs.

No idea what more I could have done to get in.

Sorry to hear that, but based upon your academic background, I believe you will be admitted to other great schools.

I second that plan. I appreciate the early responders; however, the late responders are the ones I am most interested in hearing from.

I claim the Maryland acceptance (Comparative). In the middle of the night I received an email that directed me to the website. The website had a copy of a letter from the Dean of the Graduate School indicating I was accepted. No reference to funding. A subsequent email exchange confirmed that a letter with four years of funding had been mailed last Thursday and I would get it shortly.

So relieved. The past ten days I have been glued to the internet and television watching events in Egypt and wondering when and if I can return. I kept seeing the professor I wanted to study with at Maryland on many news broadcasts. Yet I did not expect to hear so early. Applications closed February 1. Last year, Maryland did a series of admits stretched over February and March. I am guessing the same will be true this year, but it is just a guess.

For whomever posed the USC email/postal mail question, I'll let you know that I received both the information about the Provost's Fellowship as well as an acceptance email from Dr. Katada via email. Perhaps something more official will come in the mail, and Saori did mention that the admit offer was contingent on funding. So, perhaps that is where the email-post divide comes into play? Not sure.

Anyone heard from Rochester, MSU, or Illinois yet?

Well, it looks like someone got a Rochester acceptance. It seems odd that they would call on a Sunday, but I guess we've seen stranger things.

Anyone want to claim it? That would be somewhat irregular, though not impossible.

Wow, I had some friends visit for the weekend, and I come back to about 6 new pages of posts!

Humanprovince, congratulations on Northwestern.

As for the Harvard acceptance, I'm intrigued to see who the owner is.

Well sports fans, buckle up your chin straps because no matter what the results will start to roll in over the next ten business days. Made up results do not matter and the committees will send out the results because that is what they do. Good luck to everyone...

Anyone who haven't heard anything from Wisconsin yet? There seems to be a small wave of rejections through snail mail. I checked my mailbox today forgetting it's Sunday and still no white envelope.

Yeah, I'm still waiting, but I'm expecting a rejection. Someone above had an acceptance, but their online status didn't change.

Yes, I'm expecting a rejection as well. But then, hope springs eternal. In past years, Wisconsin has admitted students from the wait list in late February and March and i think they notify waitlisted people by mail (in January) but only the ones in front of the wait list besides accepted folks.

Related topic and issue, but a little narrower: anyone else planning on attending both the WUSTL and OSU recruitment weekends, which happen to occur back-to-back at the end of March? I'm trying to coordinate travel and would love to hear from others similarly situated. I'd also love to hear from potential classmates at either institution.

FWIW, I'd also love to hear from the other schools to which I applied. HYPC, here's looking at you.
