Ashlett Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I've seen on some people's signatures that they are already counting Chicago out?? Only 6 notifications on the board and the website says they won't send out all decisions until the 2nd week of March. Most of the notifications on the board were Comp/American. Any of those notified IR??

Any of those notified IR?? Someone claimed earlier they called Kathy (the grad administrator) and she told him/her that all the accepts were sent out. I hate being in this limbo. While I have technically not been rejected from any school, I am 99% confident that I am rejected given the posts/results board.

That was me, actually, and she said that "all decisions will be sent out" by then. So she didn't specify. But given the widespread practice of sending out admits then rejects, I'm in the same boat.
Lost in transition Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) Ooooooh, this waiting is so distracting and unpleasant!! What's going on with ND? What's going on with my Yale app?Should I reapp for 2012?? It drives me crazy. I have a test tomorrow, and hope I won't get another reject from my job seeking today. balderdash Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 When is the "by then"? By March 2nd? So, earlier = admit, later = rejection? March 1. And it's not set in stone, but if you check this out, http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=chicago+%28politics%7Cgovernment%7Cpolitical%29&t=a&pp=25 , you'll see that most acceptances come out early, rejections later.

CreanhouseEffect Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Hmmmm.....it's quiet. TOO quiet. Is this the calm before the Friday admissions storm?
Polly_Sigh Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Hmmmm.....it's quiet. TOO quiet. Is this the calm before the Friday admissions storm? haha i was thinking the same thing. the stress of watching the results board to no avail has gotten to everyone. so has anyone had any contact with Georgetown or George Washington? from last year's results it looks as though they really don't release until the very beginning of March, but I'm wondering if anyone has any more info about them....

I called GW about a week ago and they said it would take another month or so.
alphazeta Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Hmmmm.....it's quiet. TOO quiet. Is this the calm before the Friday admissions storm? Historically, it looks like Columbia admits have come out the third Friday in February. February 19 in 2010. February 20 in 2009. However, in 2008, it was the fourth friday (Feb 22). In any case, I'm expecting them to come out today.

balderdash Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Harvard should be soon too, no? One would think, especially given that Yale/Princeton/Stanford are out. I expect to see Columbia send stuff out today as well.
dude Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 One would think, especially given that Yale/Princeton/Stanford are out. I expect to see Columbia send stuff out today as well. Do you guys really think Princeton is done yet? Compared to last year, 9 acceptances posted to the board seem to be too few (a total of 18 acceptances were posted last year). And no one has claimed IR yet, right? Wishing and Hoping 1
CAS166 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 "The Department of Government at Cornell University is progressing along with the review of 393 applicant files. We will notify students that are accepted via e-mail immediately and all others will be sent a letter around the 2nd week in March. Best of wishes and good luck to everyone!" Got that e-mail yesterday. I replied that I had not received any messages about a decision. Today the graduate coordinator sent this e-mail: Greetings, I have checked the online system and a message was sent out on January 10th. I sent another one via the online system, please let me know if you receive it or not. Thanks for letting me know. I checked the Embark page and saw no message. Is there another online system that I'm not aware of? Anybody got a similar e-mail?

I think the general interpretation here was that this email meant that they are currently reviewing applications and will send individual decisions as they are made (as in, not right after the email you reference). I don't know about your situation, but the prior communications from the grad coordinator should just have been an email saying "This is to confirm that your application is complete." You would've gotten one sent automatically from the online system for application, one from Cornell broadly, and then a slightly more personalized one from Tina most likely (that's what my experience was anyway). I received an e-mail from Cornell on January 11th to update all applicants regarding the admissions review process, and then another message on the 20th to confirm that my file was complete..
gjason Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 A friend of mine at Georgetown said the adcomm has met, but results won't come out till the first week of March. haha i was thinking the same thing. the stress of watching the results board to no avail has gotten to everyone. so has anyone had any contact with Georgetown or George Washington? from last year's results it looks as though they really don't release until the very beginning of March, but I'm wondering if anyone has any more info about them....
balderdash Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Rejected from Yale. I didn't get an email, but I checked online and it was at the bottom of the page. Expected.

Polly_Sigh Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) General question: Why do applications ask what other schools you are applying to? Do they use that information? If so, how? Edited February 18, 2011 by Polly_Sigh
explodingstressball Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 General question: Why do applications ask what other schools you are applying to? Do they use that information? If so, how? I imagine to determine if they are a reach or a safety for you.
explodingstressball Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 And there's the official Yale rejection letter!
