sleppyb Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Applied to NYU Social psch PhD, and got my acceptance to NYU I/O Master's yesterday (3/16) as a consolation.. Anybody else hear anything from NYU? Other people not hear anything yet? What about Cornell? These are the last two schools I haven't heard anything from.
ash_g Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Has there been any word out of Tulane University or Florida Atlantic University? Has anyone heard anything? Brandt Hey Brandt, I think that Tulane has started phone interviews (as of early March) but hasn't sent out official acceptance... I'm waiting too!
Brandt Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I hear you. I have had a few acceptances, I am sitting a good one right now (UT El Paso). I am just waiting to hear on a couple more then this chapter is over. I would just like to hear yay or nay. I want to start planning the move. psyentist4good 1

Ash_g, I assume that you have applied for social as well. It is a good school and I like the program. Have you gotten in anyplace else? B

I'm in El Paso right now as I couldn't make it on April 1st for their visitation weekend. It was nice to get away from Wisconsin as I heard there was 7 inches of snow there today. After walking all over campus today, I really dug the vibe of the place -- Laid back, beautiful. I'm meeting with some of the faculty tomorrow. I'm looking forward to learning more about the program. Their offer was really good, and I'll probably take it. I think I'll fit well here.

On the waiting list from Kansas, but their reply was rather vague.. ? Me too! I just want to get on with my life!

I don't know if I will be able to make the April 1st, but since it is just welcome and not an interview it isn't as pressing though I would like to get out of Michigan for a bit. All cold and rainy up here right now. I have been to El Paso a few times, it is a decent city. The program there is really good and the offer isn't half bad at all. Unless something remarkable comes around I will be going to El Paso. B
Brandt Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I picked up a few acceptances, I got waitlisted at a backup school. I have just a few more weeks in this semester then I will pick up a summer gig to just earn a bit more money for the move. It is a long trip from Michigan to El Paso.
amyb Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Ahhhh i'm still waiting to hear from UIC too..... which area did you apply to? Let's keep our fingers crossed!!
Vitaminark Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I finally heard back from Berkeley, and it's a no-go. I have to say, though that I am really relieved to have an answer from them! Anybody heard from UC Irvine yet? I'm wondering if they have a wait list or if I can expect a rejection from them at this point too? Dude, what's UP with Stanford.. They had the EARLIEST deadline (in freaking November) and are waiting til April to notify? Seriously??
HyacinthMacaw Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Congratulations to the person who posted on the results page that they have received an offer from Penn State! Receiving the good news in person must have been extra special. Might I ask you who your POI is? Feel free to PM me. I am just under pressure to accept another program's offer, and I haven't heard from Penn State since the Dec. 1st deadline. I suspect the news isn't favorable for me, so I would just like them to reject me ASAP. Thanks! Also, has anyone heard anything at all from Rutgers? This is another case where I haven't heard anything since the deadline. I am not even sure if they have extended interviews, as there are no posts on the results page for the Rutgers social psych program. Thanks again, and all the best to everyone.
middy Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Rutgers had their interviews back in February and extended offers in late February. Sorry...good luck though!

baypsych Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Is there anybody else who applied to berkeley, didn't get an interview, and still hasnt been rejected, or is it me all alone basking in awkwardness?

I got a rejection yesterday (no interview). Either they're doing it in waves or you have a chance still? You could double-check the website, maybe.
Brandt Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 News from Tulane, They have made some offers but others are coming certainly. There will be more offers made. All I want to do is get all the chances off of the table so that I can make the best choice for my future. To all the schools out there, all of them. When a person spends the time and effort to build a strong GPA, and expends the effort to bring in a competitive GRE score, and then goes through the process and expense of applying to a school; it is only appropriate and a matter of professional ethics to respond. A stamp is cheap compared to the price of the application. If that is too much of financial burden then a phone call or a short impersonal email will suffice. The University of Florida, Chapel Hill, and Virginia were professional enough to let me know that I was rejected in a short time. No harm no foul. I didn't make the cut. UTEP and a few other schools were kind enough to let me know that I was accepted in relatively short order. I understand if a school got a late start on the selection process. Responding to an email or a phone call would be just polite. B
Thomas2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Is anyone getting acceptances from NYU? That's the only program I still have left to hear from; I don't want to accept anywhere else until I know my status there. I interviewed but haven't heard anything since.
lostnfound Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Has anyone heard from Cornell? I only applied to 3 programs in Social Psych: Princeton, NYU, and Cornell. Rejected from Princeton, I/O Masters with no funding from NYU, and I called Cornell yesterday but was told we should be hearing by the 25th. I actually have a deadline on the 25th (today) and made this known to the program. The two doctoral programs I was accepted at are in Management.

Yeah, I've been admitted to Cornell's social psych PhD. I was admitted by email on 2/25
Vitaminark Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Yeah, I've been admitted to Cornell's social psych PhD. I was admitted by email on 2/25 NYU rejections are in full effect! Finally. :-/
Vitaminark Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 For those of you still waiting on Texas A&M, I have heard from one of the Social Psych faculty that they are still doing interviews!! Crazy, right? So, sit tight, I guess?

So, sit tight, I guess? If this is true, it depends on the faculty member. The POI I applied to work with has already made his decision post-interview. Unfortunately, it wasn't me
sleppyb Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Just received an email from Cornell with a rejection. NYU is the only school left that I haven't heard from, although I'm not really expecting anything at this point. Still waiting on UVa, but that's contingent on other people making decisions.
socpsy2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 If this is true, it depends on the faculty member. The POI I applied to work with has already made his decision post-interview. Unfortunately, it wasn't me the candidates accepted post-interview declined the offer, so Texas A&M is still looking to admit a full cohort for fall 2011
fd.711 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 the candidates accepted post-interview declined the offer, so Texas A&M is still looking to admit a full cohort for fall 2011 Maybe so, but it still depends on the faculty member. Apparently the student accepted by the prof I wanted to work with intends to accept his offer. I'd be next (or second-from-next, I'm not entirely sure) on his list if she turned the offer down, and I'd almost certainly accept it, so he wouldn't be interviewing anybody else even if the accepted candidate declines the offer.
