Hi guys, I'm still eagerly waiting for the results, but I have a question about getting interviewed by phone. I haven't got any interview yet. My question is will the school notify you before they call you to interview you? or you just suddenly get a phone call and get to talk to the professor?

I guess in most cases they will notify you. They must understand that you are not always available for interviews and that you must have a say in choosing when you will have such an important coversation. Otherwise that would be unfair.

I guessed so as well. Just I saw some people's post, it seemed like they just got a phone call suddenly...

Thank you Strangefox!!

Even if you get this phone call suddenly, you are in your right to say thay you are not able to speak now (may be you in a busy street! at work!) and they must let you reschedule. If they don't - well, that only will mean that it is a bad school and you should not choose it anyways.

So what people may be referring to in the results section, or at least what I was referring to, when I put in interview, was that I got a phone call from the school inviting me to an interview weekend (not a direct phone interview). I'm sure any reputable school that does phone interviews will contact you first (either by phone call or email) to set up an appointment for the interview.

My confusion actually came from some of the results people posted. It's like they got an interview right away.

While not "interviews" as such, I just got straight up phone calls from prof's to chat, with no warning.

One was about 8 am on a Saturday, and the other was like 9:30 pm one night!

If they didn't give you any warning, they probably aren't expecting you to be all that prepared, and I wouldn't stress over it too much.

Yeah they could just call you up. I remember one applicant saying last year that a phone call woke her up in the morning and she was glad that she missed it because it was a prof calling out of the blue - she would have been groggy had she taken the call then, and she was able to call back.
