Has anyone heard from Toronto? I applied there quite early. They've never, not even once, updated my status.:D. I heard it's real tough to get through Toronto. Any MS admits there so far?

Based on last year's timing, I would say that they will be sending out results at the end of this week.

How highly rated is Toronto's dept. of CS for grad studies? Is it in the top 5? And any idea about job ops in Toronto after graduation?

Toronto would be a top 10 program if it were compared with US programs. I'm not sure about the job prospects in Toronto, but it is a fairly big city so I would imagine that there would be good tech industry job opportunities.

Hi, I got an email from Princeton today and was rejected.

So sad.... , but I hope some schools accept me.

Where else have you applied and where have you already been accepted/rejected?

I applied for Computer Engineering at U of T, not Computer Science, but I think the procedure is similar. How it was described to me by a professor there is that after some preliminary filtering, you get your application put in a big database which professors can search by field, what professors you're interested in, etc. And the professors personally choose the people they like, more or less whenever they feel like it. There isn't really the sort of admissions committee you have at some other schools. So you really could hear back whenever.

Congrats to all got admits!!! It's really nice to have a separate thread specifically for MS ads :)

So far, I got ads from UPenn Robotics MSE and Princeton CS MSE and I'm still waiting for UCLA, UIUC, Columbia and Stanford. All are MS programs. I'm short of research experiences, so mostly I applied for MS :( (already seen the debts I have to pay...)

Does any one know any of those schools I'm waiting for has done their admission?

I'm from U of Toronto and my prof told me there were some new policies imposed by Canadian government to restrict the number of admissions for international grad students. I think it is probably due to financial issues since all MS/PhD grad students are supplied with funding. By now, most CS programs I know have made their decisions and there are short waitlists. The results are supposed to be out very soon. Sorry, not sure about Eng programs.

Does this mean that if I didn't get an e-mail from UofT so far I am either waitlisted or rejected?

I know for machine learning, you have Andrew Barto - he's the head of department I believe, but I think he's close to retirement. Sridhar Mahadevan is pretty well regarded and they also have Andrew McCallum and Hanna Wallach, who are well regarded up and coming researchers in the field.

Presumably, yes... I heard from a prof in ECE that they had ended the decision makeing period. They will provide around 20-30k for newly admitted students and the number of students in ECE admitted is about the same number as last year's. So, please wait for a week or so and see what happens.

I applied for CS, I hope it's different ...

I applied for the MS program at Yale.

According to gradcafe it has sent out the admissions yesterday. Among the ad receivers is not me. So sad.

Well, is anyone familiar with Yale..? Is it true that Yale sends out all its admissions in one day.. and there is not waitlist...?

Thank you...

My heart is really bleeding.

They notice me scores unmatched made adjustment yesterday and still "process" my application.

Not sure if that means a rej on the way...

a long overdue thanks for the info!

just curious, where do you get this kind of info from? are you just up to date on AI research activity? or is there some website that you can find out frequently cited researchers?

thanks again!

You're welcome! I follow a couple email lists in machine learning, plus I did some research on UMass when I was applying. There are a couple websites that you can use to look up research activity, such as Microsoft Academic Search.

Just to follow up on this - here's a listing from Microsoft Academic Search of top AI authors: http://academic.research.microsoft.com/RankList?entitytype=2&domainID=5&last=0&start=1&end=100 Of course this is only one way of listing and I don't think you should look at it as the best listing or a ranking per se.
