Right lol...no way they could actually expect me to go from a Visual Artist who wants an MFA...to wanting what is basically their version of a masters degree in computer science. Like @Reee3 said, anything CS related you can learn online, there's sooooo many resources to learn about coding for free....these colleges are just greedy and want people's money.

Yeah I have a second interview in person with UCSB in March. They are covering all expenses. I'm just grateful to have a few fully funded programs interested in me, glad I most likely will not have to do this process again

I am so excited for you with the UCSB interview. I know you have gone through the application process a few times so I’m stoked that you have some great options! I have a v good feeling about ucsb 🤞keep us posted x

Okay so I just had my interview with RISD, and I did not think it went well at all. They only asked me three questions: Why grad school Now? Why RISD? and What do you hope to gain/get out of this? And she was a super passive, limp audience. It was over zoom so I could see her and after each question she didn't really say anything except "hmmm" and move on, no facial expressions, no acknowledgment or comment on what I said. And then when it was my turn I asked her about how much access we get to the faculty and what the critique structure was like, what the studio spaces are like and if grad students get private studios, and also about what opportunities they have for connecting with the greater are community nationally (or even globally). And she really took exception to the last question. She said that she wasn't just going to "call up a gallery in LA and tell them they needed to show my work. And that gallery placement schools (whatever that is?) don't exist anymore and they're not good for the program and they tear students apart" It was super weird and I didn't feel like she wanted to be there at all.

Which program did you apply to?

Thank you, I really appreciate that!! I know you also understand what it's like expecting to start your MFA one year and having to wait and do the application process again. I hope you also find a better fit for you this year as well. Your situation with Delaware and Kent last year was unfortunate. I hope your interview with Maryland went well! 🤞

I got accepted into UT Austin Painting earlier today with a pretty incredible financial package. Full tuition exemption, health insurance covered, and 21k yearly stipend. I applied to UT as my safe choice since there isn't much in the painting department that excited me or really stuck out while I was researching schools but now I'm praying my top choices come back with offers that don't make me regret possibly turning UT down.

Did you finally hear from Rutgers? I saw I was waitlisted on the portal and received an accompanying email a few days later.

Haven’t heard anything from Rutgers at all so I’m assuming I got rejected.

Thank you! It was a tough decision to turn everything down last year, but in the end it was the right decision because I really want to find a program that is a good fit for what I’m looking for. My Maryland interview went really well. I should know by the end of next week! 🤞🤞🤞

I had my interview with Columbia Photo yesterday in person. I feel as if it went well. There were only two professors and one alumni in the room. They asked the basic questions, and then I had some really good questions for them. I figure the interview went well, given when they asked me one question, I answered two, which smoothed out the interview;

They were taking notes, and I had my notes and gave them book references. I feel like I got it, but the only thing that threw me off was that they were not engaged with neighboring communities; the program is very student-driven, which is like every grad program. Nevertheless, if you were in NYC, how aren't you connected to any communities if it is a hub of immigrants?

For everyone, make sure you ask questions that will better you. These folks will profit from you, so consider what serves you and your practice. Research faculty, and think of what you can learn from them and how they can challenge you.

Thanks for this meaningful post! I wanted to ask—are you saying you brought your own notes into the interview with you?

has anyone heard from uwash st louis? based off the interviews ive gotten so far i feel like i would probs get one from them.....so im curious.  the possibility that they can just ignore you is stressing me out haha

I had an interview with them last Tuesday 2/13. It was about 15 minutes and they said they would be "in touch soon as we move through the rest of the application review process" ... curious on if they have multiple rounds of interviews?

Just received my rejection from U Ark

"The faculty have completed their evaluation of this year’s candidates, and I write with sincere regret to say that we are not able to offer you a place in the MFA Program of Studio Art at the University of Arkansas.

I realize that this decision may come as a disappointment.  Of those who have applied to our program, most are fully capable of doing successful work and making a unique contribution to the Studio community.  So many of the applicants have demonstrated real achievement and potential for the future.  Our decisions say far more about the small number of spaces available and the difficult choices we make than they do about a candidate’s academic promise.

While regretting that we were not able to respond positively to your interest in the University of Arkansas, I want to wish you every success in your educational pursuits.  Experience suggests that regardless of our decisions, most of our applicants will be welcomed by other outstanding colleges.  I extend my best wishes for the coming year."

Today, make something for yourself. Remind yourself you’re an artist with or without them. A important lesson in the face of any rejection is that we can always keep this making sacred.

their rejection does not reflect your ambition, your plans, or your worth. you are capable and whole. remain sold through this progress let it grow you rather than slow you down.

Accepted to RISD Ceramics this morning. Informal email promising a formal acceptance and financial aid info to follow "over the next few weeks"

May I ask when your interview was? Did faculty say anything about the rest of departments? Waiting on photo…
