Hello!

I am wondering if anyone applying to M.Ed. in School Psychology heard anything regarding admission decision yet? I have applied to University of Calgary M.Ed. (course-based). I am guessing it is soon, if not very soon!

I applied to UofA and UofC and haven’t heard anything yet

Someone in another thread had mentioned they got on interview with UofC for MSc (thesis based) SACP a couple of weeks ago. I hope we hear something soon and that it goes well!!

I applied to Western - nothing yet other than my application was passed on to the department for review.

That's great that you see the progress. I see nothing on the U of C portal other than a green light for submitted application.

Hope we hear back soon! Did you also apply to UofC SACP course-based?

I did! I applied to the course based and thesis based SACP at UofC. I never got an interview invite for thesis based so I am assuming I’m rejected at this point

Good luck to us both! I am really hoping that we will hear something within a week. I don’t know if I should expect an email or keep checking the portal. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi all!

good luck to everyone applying this year! I am so nervous and am constantly checking the UCalgary portal. This is my first time applying and I had a few questions:

1. Does anyone know how many people are accepted to the UCalgary MEd SACP program each year?
2. what are your application stats (Ex. GPA, experience, etc)? I’m trying to gauge whether I am competitive or not.
2. Will we receive an email or will it just show up in our portal?

I assume that we will find out this week since it marks 12 weeks since the application deadline.
good luck to everyone !!

Hello!

This is my first year applying as well! Like you, I am completely in the dark as to how are my chances looking. But I can give some insights, and it is just based on my but don't quote me. haha

(1) I am assuming the course-based route takes in more people than the thesis-based route, purely because you need a supervisor to go into the thesis route, hence the limited enrolment;

(2) I have a two undergraduates: one in Psychology and one in Education. I worked in Education for the last 12 years;

(3) I have no clue! I am constantly checking the portal and my email as well.

Crossing my fingers really. How about you?

Me too. 🥲 . I am wondering what would make my application more competitive? Does anyone mind sharing your school/work/volunteer experience?

I was just wondering if anyone has heard from Guelph, Western or OISE yet?
I know we still have the month and a bit but I've heard nothing from these schools so far

Sorry to hear about your result. I graduated from the MEd SACP program a few years ago and heard from faculty that there were over 100 applicants during my admission cycle and roughly 15 are accepted in the program each year. Many of my cohort mates either worked in education as teachers or special ed specialists for a number of years, or were involved in intervention or assessment with psycs or SLPs as either ABA therapists or psychometrists. Obviously I don't know what each person's academic record was when they applied, but I had a pretty average academic record. I do think that strong experience with school-aged populations in either education, assessment, or intervention is valued very highly in this program though as these were areas that I was strong in.

Hi there! Thank you so much for your response! This is helpful for me as it gives me some ideas as to what area I can work on. Do you mind telling me more about your experience with the program? For example, do you feel that this program has helped you get the career that you want? Have this program prepared you sufficiently to be licensed as psychologist?

My experience was very positive. The quality of the instructors/profs were great, and I think the program provided a solid foundation for psychology practice in educational settings - especially in assessment practices. This program does meet requirements for licensing in Alberta and a number of other provinces based on the experience of several out-of-province graduates of this program (though I have heard that some provinces are moving to only allowing doctorate level graduates to register in the coming years). My impression is that psychological professionals in public education is in high demand in many provinces. Most of my cohort mates have found employment pretty quickly after graduation (or were already employed when they graduated) in public education and private practice.
