Hi! Relatively new to this forum, been lurking this past week and furiously refreshing in anticipation. I got email rejected by Hopkins a couple of days ago and haven't heard from NYU or Hunter College yet.

But I just got an email that I'm a finalist for Brooklyn College's fiction program! Wishing all of you the best. 

If anyone knows why MFA programs don't make this process more structured/less stressful on applicants (like, "You will hear by [these days]") let me know! 🥲

A while ago I started an application for the UT for screenwriting - no idea why, never intended to study that, and never finished the app. Just started it, and that's it. But I couldn't delete it. So, as of today, I have been rejected from the program, but they thanked me for the effort I committed to applying 😆

So, to make long story short: Austin made sure to reject me from the program I didn't even apply for. In case you were wondering how badly I'm doing 😂

hello! finally made an account after lurking on this thread. I was one of the people who got the acceptance call from NYU and put it on draft. wanted to confirm that the call was more to confirm special funding rather than to just give acceptances - so if you havent heard from them i wouldn't despair just yet, it's possible to have an acceptance without special funding and they'll probably send out the accept emails soon.

I am the waitlist from draft... sorry i just signed up for a grad cafe account! didn't receive an official notification but rather a faculty email that said i had been put on 'a short unranked waitlist'. they didn't tell me much about when i could expect to hear from them except 'in the next few weeks'...which is not really a lot of info lol. but from the email it seems like they've sent out their first round of acceptances, at least informally.

I haven't interviewed with them yet (just hoping to make it that far in the process, frankly), but I live here in South Bend, and actually work on campus already, so I can (try?) and help if you have any questions about campus life or anything like that in general about the area. I was accepted to NYU today, but it said funding info will arrive later! Said they received 1k applicants for very limited spots.
 

I also talked with Columbia on the phone so thought I’d just share that it sounds like they’re not done notifying people yet. I didn’t ask specifically but they said offer letters would be sent late this week/early next week after they’re done calling/emailing the admitted students. But I’m a poet applicant, so timeline might be different for fiction. Wishing everyone the best of luck!

You called Columbia and asked? If so, I thought about doing that for a school I’m waiting to hear back from but I wasn’t sure it was allowed.

Columbia emailed me an acceptance on Monday and scheduled a call for today. When they phoned me today, I asked.

I really was holding out hope for Brooklyn College but after seeing a couple interview requests on Draft I'm assuming it's a soft rejection  Which means all my remaining schools are now soft rejections, except for Brown, which is such a ridiculous long shot that I'm basically already considering it as a rejection lol.

What would you say made the difference in your applications this year as opposed to last year? Did you take a radically different approach? Sample? SOP? Recs? I'd love to know, if you don't mind sharing.

oh man I started writing a whole response but I need some more time to make it less long. I will get back to you on this!!

I got an email a few hours ago, then just a few mins ago an email about how they tried to call and it wouldn’t go through (I’m international which was probably why), so they want me to call them. So now I’m waiting on them to call after I left a message 😭

Hi there! I’m an international, applied to Iowa, nyu and Columbia for nonfiction. Just wondering… does the outcome for nonfic usually come out later than fiction and poetry?

Received an email from New Hampshire about 2 hours ago, and I was so sure it was a rejection, because it was an email, but I just checked aND IT WAS AN ACCEPTANCE!!!!!
So, uh, New Hampshire fiction acceptances are going out.

I am losing my mind. I really thought it was gonna be a wash this year, and I was trying to gear up to do better next year. I keep oscillating between laughing and crying and my hands are shaking. Admittedly, I don't know about funding yet, but fingers crossed 🤞
