I see that Boise did poetry interviews in early Feb, but there are no reports for fiction. Last year's spreadsheet only shows interviews for poetry as well. Do we think they only interview poetry for some reason? i.e. as a fiction writer who didn't get an interview, should I count them as a soft r?

I have no clue. If there's nothing reported for fiction, I guess it'll leave it open on my insane spreadsheet tho!

Anyone else daydreaming that there’s too much overlap on these “short” waitlists and these schools end up dipping into the R pile? No? Just me? Ok cool

Yes, I think it’s unlikely that schools dip into the R pile but I do think any schools that haven’t sent Rs yet are still up in the air, which is why I don’t believe in soft Rs

Thank you so much! And yes, the story will appear in MNSU’s Blue Earth Review soon—I’ll post the link once it’s up.

In the meantime, please check out their website! It’s a great graduate lit journal.

I'm fiction and I got a rejection, but now that I'm looking through the spreadsheet, it doesn't look like there's any poetry rejections so maybe you're on to something. Congratulations on Irvine btw!!

Can I ask where you guys are seeing the spreadsheet? Could someone send me the link? ty!!!

It’s in the MFA 25 draft on Facebook, you have to join the group to see it and you can’t share it outside of the Facebook group cause it has peoples legal names and info and stuff

AMAZING!!! Congrats! I published a piece in BER last year (year before? idk) and the whole squad over there was so wonderful. I def didn't win the $1000 prize though - that's HUGE and I hope you're celebrating big tonight!

Hi everybody, just wanted to ask about utility of following up on a waitlist. I am waitlisted at one of my top choices (Syracuse) and would definitely go there if I got in (I haven't been accepted elsewhere lol so I don't have that as leverage but I'm happy this is the school I got the best result from). I sent a brief one-sentence response the day I got the email (about a month ago) just saying I was honored and wanted to remain on the waitlist. I don't really have anything new to report, I would just be saying I still want to go there, so is it worth sending anything? Sorry if something similar has been answered already, very happy for those who have gotten in, and solidarity with those who have not 🫶

I think it's definitely smart and totally appropriate to send an email letting them know what you said here (that they're your #1 and you would accept a place in the program immediately). A lot's been said here and on draft about how knowing that can realllyyy make a difference, given that these adcoms want the process to be finalized almost as bad as we do. If they're choosing between offering a spot to someone they know will accept it versus someone they're not sure will, oftentimes they'll go with the former. I hope you make it off the waitlist!!

That’s awesome! It’s one of my favorite local journals for sure (I’m based in Minnesota).

tonight, I’ll be celebrating by making myself a top notch quesadilla 😋

I emailed the Pittsburgh faculty that had interviewed me in early February. Unfortunately they had no new updates & confirmed that all of their graduate admissions are still paused. Such a bummer!

I haven't heard anything from Ole Miss, and it's hard to stay optimistic. I'm seeing the waitlists and acceptance and I feel paranoid one ot two requirements did not reach them. It's my last one before I end this application cycle. :(

Congrats to those who've gotten their results though!

Right here with you, and I believe it's the same for @Mystic_Sunshine. I'm just confused; I thought that, if nothing else, the stage 2 application led to an automatic waitlist at least. But it's been 3 days since the first notifications went out and it's still crickets here. Makes me wonder what could have been so wrong with my application or if the original invitation had been sent in error.

I'd like this process to be over. I need them to decide one way or the other so I can move forward. Tired and sad but keeping on. Now thinking of other ways to move on with my writing and year.

They don't usually send out rejections until later.

I don't think phase 2 applications lead to an automatic wait-list. Been applying to ole miss for 3 years now, mad it to phase 2 twice and been Waitlisted once, which is currently.

I really pray that I have a chance though. In the spreadsheet on the draft group, I can't seem to find any acceptances for poetry just about 3 waitlist, me included.

I'll appreciate if people who go offers in poetry can indicate, I think they should be about 4, I am really curious and wish to know if I even stand a chance because this is the only acceptance I have gotten so far, I only have one pending application.

For anyone who is on the fence, or knows someone on the fence, deciding between Cornell and other schools (only for those who want to be nudged or who can't make up their mind, obviously you do you and do what's best for you!) -

If you need or want a reason to pick another option, trans fiction candidate here on the waitlist desperately hoping to stay in the safety of NY. Have acceptances to certain Midwest schools, but frightened of possible soon to come adult restrictions on healthcare access/other rescissions of rights. So if all else is equal, feel good about picking the other school! (But again, this is just for people torn between their options. If Cornell's your school, congrats, go to Cornell!)

(Also just sayin - Ithaca was rated in the top 6 US cities with the lowest sunlight hours 🙃)
