Welcome! Looks like there was one CNF reported today; the rest are all fiction/poetry

i resonate so deeply with y’all about the waiting!!!! i thought applying was hard, but between waiting for NYU and WashU, i’ve been an anxious wreck. grateful for my support system and for how y’all have been using this space ❤️

Also, is anyone else else bringing along a partner/pet/dependant with you? How has that impacted your decision making process? My partner's happiness with the location has been integral to where I've applied to.

first lemme say hooray for the latest batch of good news! been rooting for all of you & so glad to see wins roll in.

when I started thinking about the mfa, I had a definitive list of 8 or so schools I wanted to apply to & felt that I’d move anywhere & risk anything for the opportunity. but when it came time to apply, I kinda changed my tune. I’m less enthusiastic about uprooting my life again after moving so often in my 20s / I didn’t want to be an expensive plane ride away from my family / I have a relationship & solid housing & strong community where I am. so I applied to just 2 schools. not necessarily because my partner did or did not want to relocate, but because I felt that relocating next year might be too destabilizing & thus impact my ability to do well in the program. a mentor advised me to only apply to programs I truly wanted to attend so my list dwindled from 8 to 4 to just 2 😅. I figured I wouldn’t get in anywhere this year & I’d take a year to recalibrate/prepare for big changes & reapply to the programs further away. But, to my surprise, I did get into one of the two. Now I kinda regretting limiting myself - because I want to know if I’d have made the cut at the other programs & might feel differently about moving if I had options. feeling the uncertainty & anxiety extra hard rn as I wait to hear back from the other program. so much to consider for a process that is a complete gamble to begin with 🫠

Who are you waiting on? Hate to say it but it’s still relatively early-ish- still 46 days til April 15 🤪

Hahahaha that reminded me of that spongebob episode with Mr. Krabs counting the days! I’m waiting for Riverside . Last year on draft they sent out acceptances on Feb. 28th!

My partner's happiness with the location has been integral to where I've applied to. I'm also less stoked about UNLV because it'll be hard to find arrangements for my dog during the study abroad component, even though that's an aspect that really excited me when applying.

my partner is moving with me wherever i get into school (i’m a cnf applicant with 1a(NY,)1w(CHI,)0r,4p(STL, CHI, & NYC,)) and i was really anxious at first about what if he didn’t want to live wherever i wanted to go, but it ended up kinda being a nonstarter lol.

we’ve been having ongoing convos, and we both were on the same page about where we wanted to live and where we didn’t want to live (neither of us wanted to live in iowa, and i didn’t want to apply somewhere where i didn’t want to live, so that was an easy choice.) my partner is very excited for any of the three cities i’ve applied to but is most reluctant about STL, so we decided that we’re going to visit the city/cities of the school(s) that offer admission before i submit a deposit (and we’ve budgeted accordingly.) he has ultimately said that he wants me to go where i want which takes some of the pressure off.

Has there been any fiction UC Irvine news here/on draft? Last I heard they were deliberating but that was weeks ago, so I'm assuming I missed something.

a hand full of irvine rejections in fiction went out a while back, but no other news yet.

Hi all! This is my first time applying and I'm still awaiting decisions from 5 schools. No concrete yeses yet, but yesterday I found out I was waitlisted at Iowa! Iowa is my dream program and it's hard to imagine anyone saying no to an acceptance there. I know there's no way to know what'll happen, but I was curious if anyone has heard about how long their waitlist generally is? Is it common for people to get in off the waitlist there? From the email, they said it is a "short, unranked" list.

Any insight would be much appreciated! Wishing you all the best of luck!

Don’t have any insider knowledge but judging from the Draft spreadsheet and posts here I’d guesstimate 15-20 if not more. It’s ‘short’ maybe in comparison to the cohort size, but still sizable, unfortunately. (Ex. Virginia Tech admits 4/genre but the fiction waitlist is 22 people. Syracuse admits 6/genre but waitlists 14. So a 25 person cohort probably waitlists at least 25, but it depends on their retention rate. More selective schools most likely have smaller waitlists.)
