chagh Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Starting a new thread for Canadian applicants applying for Master’s programs in Poli Sci as I haven’t seen one yet. Let’s talk application process, questions, results (as they come in later), etc. Good luck this year everyone!
chagh Posted September 2 Author Posted September 2 Advice needed! I’m a Queen’s student doing a BAH in Global Development with a certificate in Law. I have a 3.5 GPA but pretty good softs: Funded research experience (winner of Queen’s Undergraduate student research grant), doing a Bachelor’s thesis this yr, 2 years of Canadian federal government work experience, volunteered with a refugee family from Sudan and an HIV/AIDS harm reduction and community care local clinic, have strong recommendations, was my year’s Class Rep in 1st year, and had multiple club exec roles. I’m aware that my GPA isn’t super competitive (it dipped in 2nd/beginning of 3rd year due to a death in family) and I’m worried about my chances of getting accepted anywhere. I’ve emailed multiple profs at the schools I’m applying to to discuss potential supervision, and have received all positive responses. I’ve met with several via Zoom and have been told to mention them in my applications - hopefully this will boost my chances a bit too? All this being said, do you guys think I have a good shot at getting in? Are there any ‘saftey’ programs I should apply to or anything I should do to increase my chances? I’m applying to: - Queen’s PoliSci MA, Global Development Studies MA (my undergrad dept) - McGill PoliSci MA - UBC PoliSci MA - UOttawa International Dev/Globilization MA - Carleton PoliSci MA, International Affairs MA - UofT PoliSci MA - UVic PoliSci MA - University of Auckland Politics and International Relations MA
