shifgrethor Posted March 1 Posted March 1 One especially frustrating piece is that I had a paper accepted in a top journal in November. So I know my capability score would’ve been much higher than what it was, but they don’t let you update it. Though by the looks of it, maybe even that wouldn’t have been enough to get funding in 2B! odinsraven Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Congratulations to all those who went through the gauntlet of applying. It's not easy. I got rejected from SSHRC three times before I was finally successful. Some useful bits of advice I was given was to study as many examples of successful applications as you can, and to cater every aspect of your application to maximize your score in each of the 3 criteria. I have a question: I was offered a SSHRC Postdoc to go to Durham University, in the UK. Does anyone know what kind of VISA is the right one to use? From what I can tell so far from the UK Government website, perhaps it is the Global Talent Visa? Or a Skilled Worker Visa? Any info is helpful! Thanks.
jiko1 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Hey everyone. I am happy for everyone that got it. For those who didnt get it, trust me when I say that it does not reflect your true capabilities. I have objective proof (over the course of 3 years) that the sshrc is largely based on subjective preferences and the political environment. I am currently appealing, not because I hope to get the postdoc, but to point out how insanely subjective and unfair the process is. The fluctuations in my scores from year to year make absolutely no sense, considering that the project remained the exact same. And these fluctuations are not small, but big. Adelaide9216 1
Adelaide9216 Posted Tuesday at 09:50 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:50 PM yes, the scores do fluctuate to year to year, it really depends on whose on the committee and who are the other applicants. i didn't even pay attention to the scores, it's irrelevant to me (especially for those who got the fellowship. why do we need to know the scores if we've all gotten a yes for the fellowship? those can be kept private IMO) jiko1 1
