MFA 2026 Freak out Forum

I am a mixed media artist completing my BFA in painting, drawing, and graphic design. My main goal is a fully funded aid package from any interdisciplinary MFA in NYC. 

I have a master doc of all the schools I'm debating applying to. I need to narrow it down to my top 20 choices and go from there. I can share my MFA spreadsheet, if anyone is interested. 

My current favorite schools from my research are:

✧ School of Visual Arts (SVA) 

✧ Pratt

✧ Purchase

✧ Parsons

✧ The City College of New York (CCNY)

✧ NYU

✧ Rutgers

 

Currently my thoughts are on the age old question of should I choose location over funding. I've also been thinking about the few combination MFA/MA degrees. I've seen them offered in art history and in curatorial studies. I'm very interested in curatorial studies because I would like to own my own gallery in the future.

What schools are y'all deciding between? How is your process going? 💖

Last year I applied and prioritized location over funding and regretted it! But, it really depends on how much debt you’re willing to take on/money you have put away for school. Yes, schools can give you more funding than planned, but that was unfortunately not the case for me! I applied to multiple programs, got into one, and couldn’t attend because of the cost. I even had a nearly half-off scholarship! I was based in NYC and I couldn’t afford it at all. This year, I’m focused on funding and I’m much more excited about my programs. Especially Purchase’s dual degree! That’s my top choice right now. If you have any questions, feel free to message me!

Also, good job for getting ahead! I did that both years and it makes the process so much easier..
