barringtonmoore Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Could someone clarify the key differences between the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship and the CGS-D award? I understand that CGS-D scholarships must be held at eligible Canadian institutions, while SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships can be tenable at any recognised institution in Canada or abroad, but aside from eligibility, do they offer the same level of funding?

They used to be different until last year (CSG-D was more substantial), but they essentially combined it into a single funding scheme from this year. They both offer the exact same amount of funding. Would SSHRC be able to adjust the award accordingly?

You can hold a DF at an international institution but not a CGS-D, so you can accept it! And students who are awarded CGS-Ds but have ended up at an international school just have their funding transformed into a GF. barringtonmoore and shsheen 2

iris_sansevieria Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Congrats to everyone who got funding! Alas, I was not successful. However, my letter says that my application was recommended for funding by the merit review committee. Applications recommended for funding that are not offered an award due to the availability of funds could receive an offer at a later date. SSHRC will contact you if additional funds become available. Is this something SSHRC writes to all rejected applications or are there actually waitlisted applications with the slim possibility of funding down the road? Does anyone know what the likelihood is and how long one can expect to wait before receiving an answer? This is my first time applying before starting with a foreign university in September. Don't know if that negatively impacted my application. Thanks in advance for any feedback and insight!

Ah well, we always have the next round! I had the same thing on my letter and had the same question as you. My guess was that they probably send it to everyone who didn't get it and that it doesn't mean much, but I could be very wrong.

Not my first time applying. No, they do not send that to everyone. Typically, it has been sent to people who are really close and they are possibilities of still getting it. Not everyone accepts - almost all who apply for Vanier also do this, and Vanier is a higher amount and they can only hold one, so they decline this which moves everyone up a spot. Hope that helps. dag24, Blaisou and aasmith 1 2
shoegal Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Just got my results with an O last name — I got an offer! Committee 1C — 5.13/6 for research ability and potential, 5.11/6 for for relevant experience. My first application cycle!
Kia.S Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I just got the email to access the extranet for my results. My last name starts with R. I already know I didn't get it from the admin assistant for our faculty. In any case, I can't even access the extranet as I keep getting an error message when I try to log in.
shsheen Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Last name S, Committee 2B, found out about 5 minutes ago. I was "recommended" but not offered. Research ability and potential: 4.29 / 6 Relevant experience and achievements obtained within and beyond academia: 5.13 / 6 Total Score: 9.42 / 12 I wonder if this means I'm in a waitlist? I am also curious why they didn't notify us of our ranking in the committee like in the past years...
thb_affect Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Congrats to everyone who's received one and condolences to those disappointed! It's hard out there, and not a reflection of your worth or that of your research! Last name: P Email received: 6:15 EST Committee: 1C Research: 4.98/6 Relevant experience: 5.3/6 Total score: 10.28/12 Funding decision: Offered Best of luck to those waiting!
