PhD after an MFA

Hi,

I'm currently at one of the top MFA programs, and I'm interested in pursuing a PhD in English after in a very specific research topic that aligns with the themes I explore in my creative work. I've been looking through different forums, and this is largely due to the subjective nature of perspectives as well as the echo chamber of the internet, but I was curious if anyone had similar experiences. Currenlty my MFA is fully funded and I teach. My undergraduate degree (T1,R1) is not in English and my MFA is in Creative Writing. For those of you who are familiar with it, is it at all possible to apply to a PhD? I'm currently taking a class for a letter grade that is outside to get experience, a writing sample, and to be able to discuss my ideas with my Professor.

What are the chances of getting into a strong Top 10/20 PhD program in English? I'm taking classes, talking to faculty members at different insitutions for advice on pursuing a PhD and who have similar research intrests to me, emailing with current students, and working on my SOP.

I applied for PhD's in Creative Writing and American Studies/Ethnic Studies with a MFA in studio art. Not sure if this is what you were wanting.
