arthad Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Yesterday, I received an acceptance email from one of my programs, but it contained no information on funding (a TAship). Would it be in poor form to ask the department when they usually make funding decisions? Or should I wait a few weeks and then ask? arthad
newms Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Congratulations on your admit! I don't think there's any harm in asking. They want you to come, otherwise they wouldn't have sent you an admit, so I'd imagine that they wouldn't mind your inquiries about funding.
Strangefox Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I agree with Newms, I would ask them right away! Don't wait, ask now.
arthad Posted February 17, 2011 Author Posted February 17, 2011 Thanks for the advice! I've emailed the department, so we'll see . . .
akraz Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Thanks for the advice! I've emailed the department, so we'll see . . . I also had a very similar question as yours. However, I had contacted the department and they told me that funding decision will be made at a later date. Also the letter did not specified any advisor so i asked who will be my advisor and the department told me that you will select your advisor with the first year. So I asked again, do you think i should contact any potential advisors in my area and she replied doesn't hurt to send an e mail and let them know you are interested in there area........ So Now i am kinda confused if I should e mail them and say hey...i got in....and i am interested in your area/research....and more than likely they'd say yeah we we can talk when you get here.....my reason to contact them now is to possibly get them to take me as a student and have there support in finding funding? What do you guys think.
