Hey fellow I/O applicants

Does anyone know what to wear to an I-O Visiting/ Visitation/ Recruitment Weekend? This is after you've already completed phone interviews.

Have you already been accepted? If so, it seems most people are casual-- jeans and a nice shirt. Sometimes people are more formal for when you speak with professors (maybe dress pants and/or button down), but you don't have to be. There's no need to impress them once you've already been accepted, so just be comfortable without looking disheveled. If there's still going to be more 'cuts' before offers are extended, then maybe go more business casual for the professor talk portion of the day.

"No need to impress them"... except that these are your future colleagues, collaborators, etc. Dressing formally doesn't always impress, but dressing too casually will certainly make them think you're a schmuck.

So dress nice. What's the harm? Jeans might be fine if they're nice jeans.

Im waitlisted at the school I'm visiting but I agree I'd hate to underdress. Maybe suit pants and a nice sweater

I agree, it's tough to be over-dressed but it's always easy to be under-dressed. A nice pair of khakis and a button up, or even a nice polo is a classy, easy-to-wear outfit. Or some non-distressed, darker denim jeans would work also, with a nice shirt and an undershirt.

Just no jorts (jean shorts) and wifebeaters, please. ;)
