Hey all! New poster here haha. So I actually am a law school dropout (don't ever go lol) who applied to a few different masters graduate programs last December while still in law school. I'm crazy haha. Anyway, I applied to two separate programs at Newhouse (Syr) for a masters in PR and a masters in Advertising. I got into both.

I applied to Boston U for Mass Com, awaiting decision. I also applied to a masters in publishing program at NYU School of Continuing/Prof Studies.

I also got into a school in London for publishing, City University London.

Assuming I get into NYU and BU, any advice on what I should do or what the best school is?

Any advice is so appreciated!

Not really answering your question but I applied to the exact same program as you at BU. I'm also not from a comms background so I felt the syllabus at BU was a perfect fit as it seems to be more general which is exactly what I need (with no background in comms!). Having said that, I haven't received the decision letter yet though I thought I saw a few admits already. Could be because I'm an international student, though. I'm really anxious about this one... :/ especially having been rejected from Syracuse :/

Congratulations on your acceptances and all the best in your decision-making!

Good luck to you! I actually just got the letter from BU- rejection which is strange, since I got into both the masters in advertising and pr programs at Newhouse (Syr). Oh well. Best of luck to you!

Hello,

I'm also in great doubt about whether to choose Syracuse Newhouse ou BU COM, so I'd really, really appreciate any help!!!

I've applied for the Television-Radio-Film masters at Newhouse and the Television Production masters at BU COM.

I really don't know which one is better. Newhouse seems to have great reputation (at least the undergraduate program), but BU offers the chance to have the last 3 months of classes in LA, which sounds great. I'm interested in being an executive or producing/writing for tv.

Does anyone have an opinion on this? I'm completely lost, any thoughts would be appreciated!! Thanks so much!!

Hi writerwill, I applied to BU COM (same as you), Mass Comm studies and have not received my letter yet!

Not allowing myself to leave it to the hands of fate even at this point of time, I wondered if you received a letter from BU right about the time they sent out decision letters. If you don't mind, could you share the email with us? I read on another forum that BU may have sent out 2 versions.

Mine stated that decision letters were out and the email mentioned IF (yes in caps lock) I got accepted, what I could expect.

Do let me know if possible, the normal wait is excruciating enough; what more with the delay that comes with being an international student!

Thanks a lot!

I received that IF email and then I was accepted, but it may have went to everyone?

I received my BU letter Saturday, but I only live an hour away from Boston. I applied to BU's Com program (Public Relations), specifically because, as mentioned about, I don't have a com background and it seemed to be on par with what I feel I need to learn to transition. However, I'm concerned that it is not going to be challenging enough. Does anyone know how it ranks compared to other com programs? What class sizes are like? They are giving me substantial funding so it's alluring, but I need to know more before making a decision (my MPP programs haven't sent out letters yet).

Hi aliicat11,

Thanks!

Apparently some students received the e-mail from BU without the "IF accepted" portion.

Haha, I'm hoping against hope. Patience is not one of my many virtues and it's plainly obvious during this entire application process.

I applied for the Mass Communication Studies program, for much like the same reason as you - I don't have a Comms background and wanted to give myself the foundation which I felt would be covered (from bottom up) by the BU COM program. With regards to the challenge of the program, I've read on a couple of forums that the basic modules are rudimentary - having said that, like I mentioned, I don't have a comms background, so won't complain - in fact, the simpler the better...!

Anyway, congratulations on your acceptance. :)

From the edge of my seat,

has anyone NOT received BU COM decision letter yet?

Granted, I'm an international student, but still - it's nerve wracking to be sitting at the edge of my seat every day.

Holler here if you're an international student and have/have not received the decision letter yet!

Hi all,

I have also applied for BU COM (Public Relations Program) and haven't recieved the decision letter by mail yet (it may be because I live outside of the United States). Anyway, I have received an email on March 10th saying that the decision has been mailed and should received by March 28th (btw, my email has the "IF accepted")... so until then, let's keep our fingers crossed ;)

Oh yah, I am also wondering if anyone can give me advice on BU COMM's PR and NYU SCPS's PR & Corporate Comm Program. For example, how is the quality of the education/program? Because I am really uncertain of how the classes are like in the NYU program since it's from the School of Continued Professional Studies. Does anyone know what's the average working experience of the people admitted in that program?

Thanks!!

Have any of these schools offered you any funding? Newhouse just offered me a sweet assistantship so maybe you'll hear something from them soon! Financial aid ultimately helped me decide on where to go for grad school.

I was considering applying to NYU SCPS as well, but after I did some research on the program, I felt that it did not have the overall prestige that is characteristic of NYU, so I ended up not sending in an application. I'm not sure about the other programs you mentioned, but you already know I love Syracuse! :)

Are you still planning on attending the Master's Preview on April 8? I have my plane tickets and hotel reservations all booked! In any case, good luck!

Thanks! I decided on NYU- the publishing program has a really good reputation and the advisory board is very influential- the program sounds great. Good luck to you!
