  1. 1. Would you rather pay more to go to a higher ranked school or go to an unranked school with complete funding?

oh also, I'm from Missouri (I see you have Univ of Missouri on your accepted list.. not sure if that's a ranked program or not). I don't know if you're talking about Mizzou in Columbia MO, but Columbia is a cooler area than it appears to be. Granted, I don't know about the art department so that's probably not very helpful...

Great question, super hard to decide. The thing is, if you are a great artist, you are a great artist. If someone looks at your work and finds it to be strong-- it's strong regardless of what school you went to. However, the ranked school may give you more visability etc etc. In the end though, some of the greatest artists didn't even go to art school! so where do they factor in? I think drive and talent will push you forward... perhaps your school can push you forward faster! and being debt free certainly helps!

see already more people are saying "Pay more at higher ranked school" and I tend ot agree... the thing is if you want to teach at all after graduating then a higher ranked school will help you at least intially to be noticed by better institutions in a hiring situation. It is HARD to decide b/c ultimately I just want ot make my art, but I also want to be challenged and find a program that will push me to be the best I can be... its about gettting the most out of my MFA.. I went to a pretty inadequate school for undergrad and I have still managed to have some success thus far in my career, so I know you can make it happen no matter what if you try, but the thing is that after my experience in undergrad, I want a program that challenges me every step of the way and can offer me connections that are advantageous when I graduate... its TOUGH..... no one can tell you how hard all of this truly is... dry.gif

i vote 'free and unranked' partly because that's what's happened, and i'm soooo relieved to be able to work steadily for two years for free. ...although, it's not technically an unranked school, it's actually one of the highest ranked programs in Canada. but since we're talking American rankings....
