Hi all,

Congrats to everyone who got in

Just got accepted for this spring a few days ago, didnt get any fin aid offer, and i have a month to move across the country, once i officially reply to the acceptance email. The only way i can possibly pay for bu is go part time and work at the same time, Im wondering if anyone is in the same boat?

Hello all

Still waiting for my decision for the spring, but remaining hopeful. Atomicwest I would be in a similar situation as I would be moving from florida in under a month, not sure what I would be doing for work as of now, but I was curious what your plans are regarding housing? I'm guessing some form of on campus housing would be the easiest way to go but I'm not really sure how it works for grad students.

Also I was wondering if anyone called for their decision?? Getting pretty impatient.

Hang in there, Frosty88! I'm in the same boat, waiting to hear back. My hope is that they got to some applicants before Thanksgiving break, then took the holiday off, and now are getting to more of us. And, of course, I hope I get in! I haven't called yet, though if I don't hear by Friday, I'll probably contact them.

My fingers are crossed for you, hope you get the good news soon,

Vincent

Frosty88 if I remember correctly BU doesn't offer on campus leases for the spring???? anyone feel free to correct me on this, but in addition to tuition being $$$ I've been looking for something off campus, but I agree an on campus place would probably be easier to acquire. I've been scanning craigslist and some other sites for potential rentals; there are availabilities out there so I'm hoping to get lucky. I've also tried to inquire current LEAPers with availabilities on the LEAP facebook page but i need to be accepted as a member to post msgs :(

I'm open to collectively find housing with anyone else who wants to go apt hunting for a good deal. I'm also waiting for a decision from a state university, so I havent officially replied to BU just yet

pygartheangel I've also been really concerned with the return on investment, from the web info sessions and alum profiles online it looks like people are able to get jobs without much trouble? They also mention some LEAPers end up going to PhD's later; I havent seen official stats though. to put it this way, the amount of positive feedback I've seen for LEAP outweighs the negative feedback, and the job hunt does involve more than just one's degree. But still it's coming down to a cost issue for me, so I applied to a less expensive state univ that accepts MSEng students provisionally (I would have to complete deficiencies in a similar manner to BU, but there isn't much of a LEAP-like community there).

I am also open to looking for a place together ! I am moving from CA so I am really having a difficult time finding housing....For people who are locals, is  it better to have a car or commute with buses. I am not familiar with Boston at all.

Wow looks like quite a few people are in the same boat here. Obviously this will all be a moot point if I don't get accepted but I'd be willing to look for a place together, I'm assuming this would help with the mad dash for housing in the upcoming month. I am eagerly awaiting an email and will post as soon as I get a response.

Good luck everyone else who is waiting!

szman i'm also from CA! though im in norcal, what about you? btws just like with most big cities it's better to stick with public transportation; I thought the subway system was better than BART imo when I visited Boston a few months ago and anything beats ac transit or the metro in LA

good luck Frosty88 and everyone else waiting!

It's funny, I'm very familiar with Boston and would recommend public transpo to anyone, over owning a car, but I can't think of any friends of mine who do live there without having one. I've got bunches of friends there, too... Different strokes for different folks, I guess!

Public transpo is definitely the commoner's mode of travel. Occasionally, a car is nice for things like large grocery loads, in which case I use ZipCar. It's really up to you. I've heard that parking can be annoying most time.

officially committed; anyone else hear back from BU?

see you all next month ;D

Hows your housing search going?

Posted

Hey guys,

Congratulations to everyone on their acceptance!! I am excited to meet all of you next month as well. I was wondering how the housing search is going for everyone as well. I am making a trip up next week to look for spaces but everything seems to be a studio space. I am not quite sure where to find sublets or people looking for roommates to cut down the cost for housing.

Eeeek, I am so excited and can't wait to begin this new adventure.

Curious to those other applicants who haven't heard, yet-- Have any of you contacted BU to ask where they're at with the process? The longer it goes without hearing from them, the more ominous a feeling I'm getting... haha, anyone else in the same boat?

got an acceptance letter this morning! but how is everyone planning to pay for this exorbitant tuition?? loans or part time???

Congrats folks who've heard, hang in there those who haven't! easonfg, yea, loans loans and more loans.

Also, about housing:

I'd love to do some type of house/apartment share too! Feel free to contact me, vbarilla@gmail.com, if you're looking for potential roomies.

Also, RAV_23, congrats on getting in! Did you hear before Thanksgiving, or have you heard since?

Vincent.barilla, I heard back a couple days before thanksgiving. I will def ask the realtor to show me some more spaces with multiple rooms and then get back to you. I am getting excited and just want to find something soon. I don't want to be homeless. :)

Easonfg,  I will be taking out a lot of loans to cover the cost of the program.

Of course! I've been in touch with a few people, it sounds like we're all moving on different timeframes. Good luck finding a place, let me know if you think there'd be something a group of us LEAP'ers could go in on together!

Take care, I'm really excited too! :) How far away are you coming from?

Congrats everyone hearing the good news, and hopefully everyone else waiting will get in!

szman I haven't got the course planner yet, have you? I emailed Leslie about it today but she hasn't gotten back to me yet; still don't know who my contact person for EE will be. As for housing, I've been asking around fb and found someone offering a sublet about 1.5 miles from campus. I don't know  if the sublet is still available at this point, but if I'm not able to get that location, I'd be definitely down to find a place with other new leapers!

If anyone needs a roomie, contact me at ogjdne@gmail.com; until I post otherwise, I currently have no housing secured for January onward. anyone else able to get a place?

RAV_23 It's good that you'll be able to see housing in person; better places are found on foot.

easonfg i've been looking around for some part time job to pay off some of the loan interest during the year. However it's mostly through careerbuilder and other halfway-effective sites like that, so I probably be doing more job hunting once i'm actually in Boston

I found a place for spring, but it's a temp sublet until the end of May; if anyone is subletting now and needs a place for June onward, we can work something out!
