canberra Posted April 28, 2011 Share Posted April 28, 2011 Use Google Chrome as your browser, and then add-on the dictionary extension. When you come across a word you don't know, you just have to highlight the word and click on the dictionary icon in the URL window, and you get the meaning. fenderpete Posted May 6, 2011 Share Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) I just made flashcards using the Barron's high frequency list for every single word where I didn't know the definition, and then learned 7 a day every day for about 2 months. bluejay16 Posted May 6, 2011 Share Posted May 6, 2011 I've been reading through the Princeton Review's revised gre book for strategies and I feel that vocabulary is still very important for the text completions. The good thing is, the text completions have information in the sentences which help you use process of elmination to get the correct answer. I would still make flash cards to learn high frequency words and also study roots and prefixes so that if you come across an unknown word, you can at least guess the definition of it. Good luck!!! I've read that the new GRE still places some emphasis on vocabulary, but has contextual cues to help you select the right word. Regardless, if you don't know what the word means, all the context in the world isn't going to save you. I have flash cards that I take with me everywhere, in the event that I have a few minutes to review. I've also taken to sticking post-it notes with difficult terms and definitions all over my apartment, so I have no choice but to see them constantly and memorize the information.
