Biz Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 That spreadsheet was compiled by other spreadsheets people have gotten from their own school, fpa etc. They are not connected to who has posted in the forum. Right, ray1246 gave us that info from his FPA. It goes back farther than the two past spreadsheets we have. I've started putting in some of the missing info but it takes time and obviously a lot of the countries aren't being captured by the spreadsheets we have access to.
Gardens Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Hey women'shistorianO+, It's great to hear from another UK applicant -- and thank you so much for contacting Rachel H.! You've got me feeling optimistic again. I applied for an open award in Creative Writing. My affiliate organization is Kingston University, but I applied for a Fulbright as an independent researcher, with the intention of producing a researched, book-length manuscript of poems. Obviously, I knew that submitting an application for an open award was a very long shot (thus worsening already-bad odds), but, because I already have an MA in poetry and am finishing an MFA in poetry this semester (and because I graduated from college 10 years ago), it seemed a bit silly to me to apply for another degree program. I keep hoping that, because I was a creative applicant (and thus was required to submit a writing sample), the Fulbright committee felt that my work gave them a good idea of my potential as a Fulbrighter, and that they decided that no interview was necessary on that basis. The unfortunate thing is that, as far as I could tell, the UK committee has only granted Fulbrights in creative writing to a.) Students who have been accepted to creative writing programs in the UK; and b.) Students who undertake serious analytical projects with creative focuses.
Busti Bustamante Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Anyone else hoping to hear this week? (Based on Spreadsheet)
Isiberius Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I'm rabidly hoping to hear back this week! Applicants for an ETA in Bulgaria found out on March 14 last year and on March 8 the year before -- I'm crippled with anticipation!! lg702 1
kbui Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Anyone else hoping to hear this week? (Based on Spreadsheet) I don't even know WHAT to expect. Vietnam's response has been as early as March 31st, until April 31st. Why won't they tell us as soon as they know?! #FulbrightProblems
MDW89 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I'm rabidly hoping to hear back this week! Applicants for an ETA in Bulgaria found out on March 14 last year and on March 8 the year before -- I'm crippled with anticipation!! Greece is in the same boat...I want to know! (it sucks that no one else on here for this season is for Greece so I feel so alone on here XD)
MedievalHistory1124 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Anyone else hoping to hear this week? (Based on Spreadsheet) I wish. Italy tends to notify in early April, but then again, you never know!
Busti Bustamante Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Greece is in the same boat...I want to know! (it sucks that no one else on here for this season is for Greece so I feel so alone on here XD) Agreed. (Portugal, here.) We can be alone, together!
jeb266 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Anyone else hoping to hear this week? (Based on Spreadsheet) I applied to Hungary for an ETA (2 positions available). I got in contact with one of the current fulbrighters there and he said he heard around March 21st last year, but that the second fulbrighter didn't hear until May (he assumed the issue with the second one was funding, but it could have also been an alternate to offer type of thing). (The past notifications tab on the spreadsheet says March 11 from last year, but that could be a non-ETA). So I would love to hear in the next two weeks, but I am bracing myself for mid-April because it seems pretty mixed bag and I don't have a lot of information since there are so few grants in Hungary.

I had a hunch those who hadn't heard back were people who applied for open awards. I wonder if Magiaepasta, et al will also be open award applicants. No word from Rachel H. But I feel a little less manic, that's for sure. I applied for an open award in Gender Studies/Women's Studies (hence the screen name). My affiliates are the Black Cultural Archive and SOAS - University of London, and I intend to research Black British women's groups/feminist movements while taking research methods courses towards a PhD. I've already been accepted to the PhD program in Gender Studies, but obviously, funding is key. I'm also a candidate for funding through the school, but won't hear back about that until the end of May. This whole process is agonizing, but I'm not ready to give up hope yet, and you don't give up either! Ideally, we'll hear back before the end of the week as I'd like to spend the weekend either celebrating or mourning. I don't think I can carry this bundle of emotions into next week. Good luck w/ your application; sounds promising to me. http://forum.thegradcafe.com/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png' alt=':)'> I'll post an update if/when I hear back from IIE.
brb Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Eternal Icicle: I'M WITH YOU! I was convinced (not quite reasonably) that applicants for Bulgaria would be notified this past week, so I spent most of my time fruitlessly refreshing my email instead of working on a very important paper........ Best of luck!! i was convinced, as well.. have still not written a paper that was due last week... hope you were able to finish yours! =)
magiaepasta Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Coming out of the lurker shadows to say, I'm also a UK grant applicant waiting to hear back, and I wasn't interviewed. I finally broke down and emailed Rachel H. this morning. I don't imagine anything solid will come of it, but it makes me feel better. More in control, or something. Ha! It seems that those who have heard back applied to fee waiver schools. Gardens, Magiaepasta, Travellite, and AKestigian: did you apply for a grant to a fee waiver school or for one of the 9 'open' awards? Yay for contacting Rachel-I had been contemplating whether or not to do so, but I have exercised restraint thus far. I applied for a full-grant to Oxford under the open award--the Fulbright-Clarendon partnership for the 'fee waiver' is only applicable for those doing a DPhil and I am applying for an MSc. I am nervous because not only have I not heard back from Fulbright, but I also haven't heard from the admissions committee at Oxford yet. While I am hoping and praying that I will get both, if I don't get a Fulbright I am still eligible for funding through the university, so my eggs aren't all in one basket. So sick of the wait, though!! Best of luck to everybody and here's hoping that no news is good news... travellite 1
Eric Bee Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I'm in the same boat with Romania - only one previous award listed on the spreadsheet, and it was an ETA (I'm waiting to hear about a full grant!)...that date was the 14th. I was hopeful I would hear this week, but as Thursday drags on (it is already 6 PM in Romania right now), I'm less and less hopeful.

The email notification will be coming from the United States, not the host country.
Biz Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 The email notification will be coming from the United States, not the host country. Yeah, you don't have to worry about host country time. The US either has or doesn't have the results by now. It seems like most of the emails are coming in the afternoon, right? Or maybe people just have the patience to not check them all day... or busy schedules. Not to mention, I don't think I will be finding out for a month.

Busti Bustamante Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 For the record, Anyone else suffering from skipped heart beats at every e-mail they receive? It's really getting old... stupid e-mails from retailers and restaurants giving me mini heart attacks! :/ magiaepasta 1

I should really be over this kind of s*** by now, but apparently I'm not.
bdoll Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 i received the recommended status email at 7p, so an email after normal business hours wouldn't be surprising.. Except that pretty much everybody received the recommended status email after normal business hours. Recommended statuses were all determined by IIE/Fulbright here in the U.S. and they were sent out as a mass email along with the emails to non-selects so that makes sense.
tarheel12 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Did I read somewhere that they changed the notification process this year and all acceptances would be notified by email or am I dreaming? If the email comes from the US, is it from the FSB or IIE? (worried about my spam blockers...) lg702 1

jeb266 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 so do you think it would be similar since final decisions have to be processed by them anyway? and they, too, would be mass emails, though on a much smaller scale? I was maybe thinking this too. My guess is that a handful of people applying to countries that historically notify earlier might be getting an email on Friday (both this Friday and next). It would make sense to do all the prep during the week and then just focus on sending all of the emails (those that were processed during the week)

If the email comes from the US, is it from the FSB or IIE? (worried about my spam blockers...) I was wondering this too. Typically, Germany applicants (Full and ETA) have received notification via mail, but it seems the Germany full grants are receiving E-mails this year. I would get nervous/excited every time I heard the new E-mail notification sound, so I muted my laptop, assuming that all notifications are coming via E-mail.
