I'm doing a masters in theology right now (ancient Judaism). This fall ill start applying for PhD programs, mostly in theology, but I figured I would also apply to a couple MAs just in case I don't get in.

What schools should I look at?

Also, and perhaps most important, which schools will actually 1. Give you scholarships and 2. Let you loan for tuition (if full tuition scholarships are not available)?

If I need to supply more information about my interests let me know! *Also, I'm also looking into NES programs!

thanks ya'll

Post this in the Classics forum. I was wasn't sure either where to post ancient history stuff, but seems like you'll have a better chance there.

As for theology - I don't know any programmes whatsoever. I know Notre Dame has an emphasis on Early Christianity and perhaps a theology programme as well.

Also - what are you going to do your masters in? A second masters in the same subject?

Will do, thanks.

I'm doing an MTS degree now at BC. I figure I might have to get a second masters to be competitive enough to get into a PhD. I would consider a second degree in theology, but I would want something to supplement my study, such as history, classics, or philosophy.

Try not to get into too much debt in this process!

I'm trying not to...sadly I am already in a decent amount of debt from UG. What can I do? It's a sad reality that most of us can't do much with just a master's degree in the humanities.

*sigh*

thanks

Cornell's department of Near Eastern Studies is a great place to study the ancient Near East, from what I gather. Affiliated programs in Religious Studies and Archaeology offer Master's degrees, but a PhD in NES would include a strong methodological grounding in ancient history. They also have the third-largest collection of Cuneiform in the country and are in the process of digitizing them, which I think is pretty cool
