Just trying to drum up a little activity here, if there are any life science folks around :)

What types of programs are you applying to? what are your interests and where are you applying to?

Hola and best of luck to everyone. I am applying to grad school in the biomedical sciences for fall of 2009 in the area of Microbiology/Immunology. I have (thankfully) finished the process and have apps out to Harvard, Duke, UNC, WUSTL, Vanderbilt, Minnesota and Michigan. This was a stressful process and if I can offer any advice or answer questions, feel free to pm or post.

Applying for a chemistry PhD. My interests lie in protein structure, function, and evolution. So I guess you would consider me a biochemist, though I do love analytical. Sometimes biochemistry just doesn't have enough math for me to be satisfied.

Maybe I can be an analytical biochemist

Sounds like you're up my alley, I also want to study protein structure, function and evolution, although I'm interested in predicting it on computers.

Yeah me too. I like predicting protein structures on the computers basically I love anything to do with the proteins ... Am applying to the integrated MS+PhD prog in Biochemistry for spring 2010 though at U of MN

hey all,

many put me into the 'immunologists' category [bc of past research] but my interests lie in the biochemical basis of developmental genetics.

and, like others who have mentioned it, i too am pretty keen on sturcture/function predictions.

I am looking at biophysics to better understand the protein/structure relationships at the basis of disease. pretty excited. not a physicist or mathematician but I can do it says my research experience.

I am interested in the biochemical mechanisms underlying physiological adaptation to environmental stress in the marine environment. Also, in a more broad context the genetic regulation events that spawn evolution and novel function. Anyone with similar interests is welcome to reply...I love (maybe too much) chatting about this stuff!
