  1. SO I submitted my app at 19:00:40 . I know, I cut it close. My word document doesn't like figures in the proposal. Should I be worried about my application being denied?
  2. I am going to add to what others have said. First, you will have to put more effort into your writing. What you write, whether it be a statement of purpose or a thread in a forum, is a reflection of what you are capable of. Second, you are very involved in chemical and biochemical science through the ACS, UC Berkeley, and San Francisco State University. You should highlight how involvement with these three institutions has developed your critical thinking ability. If professors involved with these institutions can vouch to your ability in their letters, since your ability may not be highlighted in your GPA, then you have a chance at being accepted to many PhD programs. Last, apply to private universities as opposed to public ones. There is a lot of funding issues with supporting international PhD students at public universities. Thus, international students may have a harder time competing for public PhD programs. Best, A SFSU alum
  3. I haven't come across a discussion on the internet regarding the NIH predoctoral fellowship. Yet people must be applying, so I wanted to know if there was anyone on thse boards that has applied and received a NIH predoctoral fellowship? Either the regular (dissertation) or diversity (before or after candidacy) versions? Accepted outright or after revisions? Would you share your experience before or after, or both, after submission?
  4. Honorable mention. Had to search my name. Congrats to all who got it! I shall try again I suppose.
  5. hope? and the main page hasn't changed for me.
  6. I am curious if it is mostly east coast people who have been able to see status?
  7. If you get an application page without a notice, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN! ah. sad face.
  8. I understand the budget in congress has a deadline of April 8th. If a resolution is not made by then, and assuming the GRFP is dependent on the 2011 budget, we may have to wait.
  9. Michael Alley, The Craft of Scientific Presentations: My link. He also has a website,
  10. Well you obviously are not an adult yet, since you rely so much on your parents and cannot stand up for yourself.
  11. I was under the impression that you could defer for a maximum of 1 year.
  12. I just looked into this also, same criteria of laser printer + duplex. I was comparing Dell, Brother, and HP. The Brother is definitely a better deal at $200 or $300, I don't remember, but I am going to wait until I actually start so that I can figure out the on-campus printing.
  13. UCSD is a great school. I had options, and I passed up some places that I know other people would never do. I'll be there. Chem dept.
