chickenandwaffles Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Supposedly we were to be sent a limbo notice, not award (horrid typo)...lol. But you can call and confirm. They are pretty nice on the phone. thanks for the clarification, i didn't get anything from nsf, i guess 1 more week.
freshprince Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I never received an "in limbo" notice... Also, they haven't awarded any Honorable Mentions... Don't you think due to the shear number of those awarded HM's, that most of them will come in this second pool and very few actual full awards will be in this second pool? They've already given 950.... I can't imagine they'd add many more.
nsfneedstohurryup Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 sorry- what # do we call? the guy at the 866-673-4737 number told me he didnt know, and that they would know later today
sterculus Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I just called and the guy told me that I'm most likely a HM - "slim to none" is my chance for getting an award. Ah well. I called the 866 number, fyi.
blah2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 honestly none of us know how many more awards will be given out. Could be from 0 to 700 more depending on funding. Additionally, we don't know the motivation for this first group of awardees. Is the reason they were notified first due to their ability and merit? No one knows. Could be a convenience thing too.
blah2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I just called and the guy told me that I'm most likely a HM - "slim to none" is my chance for getting an award. Ah well. I called the 866 number, fyi. He said that to you? That's a bit harsh.
freshprince Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Honestly, do they really have the funding to almost double the amount of awardees? That doesn't seem right...?
nsfneedstohurryup Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I just called and the guy told me that I'm most likely a HM - "slim to none" is my chance for getting an award. Ah well. I called the 866 number, fyi. did he check for you individually, or did he mean that more generally?
Neurone Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 He said that to you? That's a bit harsh. oh man, i want to call now to find out, but I just got dizzy even thinking about it.
blah2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 https://webspace.utexas.edu/moontj/IMPA ... l%2008.pdf That's where Im getting that figure. Do NOT get your hopes up. It's mere speculation.
anxietyridden Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I just called the 866 number too and he looked me up individually and told me that my app is still under review. He was also nice.
sterculus Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Yeah, he asked for my name and I guess looked up where I'm ranked in the limbo group. He gave me the "slim to none" after I pushed him a bit, and he wasn't very specific about the timetable. The moral of the story though is to call them if you're in limbo :|
freshprince Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I'm too scared to call the number, anyone want to pretend they are me and call for me?
Neurone Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I'm too scared to call the number, anyone want to pretend they are me and call for me? hmmmm.... According to the person I talked to, they don't have any way of telling you whether or not you have a shot in hell of getting the award. (I'm paraphrasing, by the way)
blah2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 what I do know is that there will be additional awards. But whether it is a significant number or not, no one knows.
iluv2fly1 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 https://webspace.utexas.edu/moontj/IMPACT/NSF/NSF%20GRFP%20Fall%2008.pdf That's where Im getting that figure. Do NOT get your hopes up. It's mere speculation. Wow. I hadn't seen that before. I had been worried that I didn't address the broader impacts and intellectual merit sufficiently. But now I know why I got the fellowship. My history, research and future plans pretty much all fit into that broader impacts category...
PSi_light Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 https://webspace.utexas.edu/moontj/IMPACT/NSF/NSF%20GRFP%20Fall%2008.pdf That's where Im getting that figure. Do NOT get your hopes up. DorianGravy Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Well, I didn't get an award, but I'm still curious to see my review sheets. Has there been any indication on when those will be available?
blah2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 look on p.2 of that presentation to see award projections.
math123 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I think PSi_light you are right. I would imagine that those in limbo--as people like to call it--will get HM. There may be a select few that will get an award, but I think people are fooling themselves if they think they have a significant chance at this stage of seeing money. That having been said, don't take this entire process very seriously. At a success rate of 10 per cent, a lot of luck is involved.
anxietyridden Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I called again to see about my ranking and the woman told me that I was in group II....well she said "you are in the second group to be considered" and that I should "hear back at the end of next week but there are no guarantees about that date". And, I haven't gotten an email, so maybe they did not email group II, only 1 & 4?
blah2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 we all really don't know but definitely don't get your hopes up.
cogpsych Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 the person i just talked to said that there are no more rejections, only HM's and more awards, which will be e-mailed out by the end of next week. she said that she couldn't give me info on my personal status, though.
sterculus Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 hmmmm.... According to the person I talked to, they don't have any way of telling you whether or not you have a shot in hell of getting the award. (I'm paraphrasing, by the way) I guess we talked to different people then . I hope yours is right.

They haven't granted any honorable mentions - chances are that we all fall into that category.
