IRunIntoThings Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 (edited) Hi, I'm taking the general GRE tomorrow for the first time and have a couple of questions. By the way, any tips related to the Analytical Writing essays would be great. So far, I've only studied the McGraw-Hill's GRE 2010 Edition textbook. 1a) Do I get to choose which section between Quantitative, Verbal, and Analytical Writing I can complete first? 1b) Do I get to choose which essay - between the Issue and Argumentative - I can complete first? 2) I only need to complete the Analytical Writing part of the examination for the graduate school for which I am applying, so I do not plan to even touch the Quantitative and Verbal sections. For those two multiple-choice sections, can I just leave the room and tell the proctor that I do not wish to complete the other sections, or do I have to sit there idly? Also, do I actually have to complete those sections? Any information related to my questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Edited July 17, 2011 by IRunIntoThings IRunIntoThings 1

thebigbang Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 If I'm not mistaken, the writing section comes first. In my experience (I've taken the exam twice) the issue is first while the argument follows. I don't know what to tell you about leaving the exam in the middle. Make sure they won't cancel your score if you leave. Good luck. IRunIntoThings 1
IRunIntoThings Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 (edited) try this: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=gre+faq Oh, trust that I've read that FAQ on the official GRE page at least two to three times. If you can point to the specific question that my answers are included in, I'd be very surprised (and thankful!). Edited July 17, 2011 by IRunIntoThings

If nothing else, my allergies have been kind of bad these last few days, and I don't want to be sneezing and blowing my nose, while will most likely distract other test-takers.
shiner Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 1a) No. AW always come first. 1b) No. Present your perspective comes first. You will be given 2 to choose from there. Analyze an argument comes second. You will not have a choice on that one. 2) You can skip through the math and verbal sections. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=ets+aw+intro+pdf ; )
