Yayay Congrats AFB! You win with having the first positive result of the season!

At least of those who have posted on the board!

Congrats to the poster who received a waitlist from U of M - Twin Cities. I didn't apply there, but I think it looks like a strong program. Hoping you get off that waitlist soon.

We're thinking of "Hannah" and, I'd post a photo, but I don't know how!

Just upload it to a photo hosting site, and then click the little thing that looks like a polaroid in the "Reply to this topic" box. It will let you post the url from there, and automatically put the photo in your post.

I think the American Studies program is completely different than history. It's more a mix of history and literature.

So don't freak me out!

Whoopsie. Sorry!

No problem, girl. UMN was one of the few programs that let me know approximately when they would let us know decisions. I'm excited about hearing back from them. I think I would fit well there.

Well good luck, then! I've never been anywhere in Minnesota. Did you visit at all?

No :( I haven't had the time or money to visit any programs. I hope that doesn't bite me. But what can you do!

My boyfriend grew up in Minnesota, so he's told me all I need to know (it's cold).

I don't think it will hinder your apps at all. I think visiting is more for your benefit than anything, just to get to see the actual city/campus. I don't think it has any real impact on admissions decisions.

Yeah, but I guess I also mean getting in contact with POIs. It was my intention, but it never came to fruition. I've read on here that it helps, but it isn't a deal breaker!

For what it's worth, I'm here!! Trying to get to this month's Nat Geo but it's not really appealing to me. Although the cover story is about dogs, making it somewhat germane to tonight's puppy discussion.

I was thinking that this thread is going to be a great source of amusement for next year's applicants... Quite neurotic, and certainly an eclectic blend.

Hahaha, thank you. I am obsessed. It's like... a soap opera, in my period, with zero subtlety, and beautiful costuming.

And yes, all of next year's applicants will probably look at this and think we're insane.

Last month's -- twins and Danish dogsled patrol teams -- was pretty awesome though. ;)

Epigenetics!! And the Panamanian Gold Warriors were really cool.

Thanks! I seem to waver between excitement and dread, but it's a strange feeling to confront the reality that decisions *will* come out soon (in two weeks for most of my schools, it seems). Ack.

Speaking of NG, check out the book 'Reading National Geographic.' I haven't been able to look at the magazine the same way since.

I just had the awful realization that next week is February

At last! And as we've discussed, I've noticed that I'm being googled a bit more as time creeps on... Including a few with specific keywords attached to my name that give me some hope it's a potential advisor. Maybe? Hopefully?

Hopefully! Wish I could say the same. My last hit was Professor [my *very* distinct name] a few days ago

I'd like so see them out-insane us next year! Although I do hope they get a StrangeLight type who brings a bit of "been there, done that" perspective into the conversation from time-to-time. I wonder if that person will get eviscerated like SL did yesterday for his one post.

I wish I was being googled! Or maybe I am and they just don't want to go to the fifth page where my Academia.edu AND GoodReads are located.

Come on POIs and adcomms, you know you want to see what kind of books I read.

I've actually considered opening a Facebook account just to fill it with all sorts of pro-me propaganda. Oh, the neurosis!

My Google+ page comes up when I search for me (not sure if it would for other people, though) and one of the first updates is from back in August and it says, "Looking up stuff for grad school during work. Must be Wednesday."

That shows my drive and dedication, right?
