echo4 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Hi, I'm researching which library and information school I'd like to go to, and one of the options I'm investigating is maybe going to a school in the UK (I'm American, by the way, if that's important). I realize that American library schools and UK library schools have different accreditation associations (ALA vs cilip), so I have a few questions about the benefits or disadvantages of studying in the UK. - How do American employers view applicants that come from a non-ALA accredited school? - Are there any major differences in UK librarianship practices that would make it difficult for me to get a job in the US or elsewhere in the world? - Has anyone gone to a UK library school and could you say something about your education experience? Thanks in advance.
harpyemma Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I don't really know anything about librarianship as a practice, but i have experience as a scholar in both US and UK academic libraries--would the difference between Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems pose a problem? UK libraries use Dewey, most US libraries don't, i think.
echo4 Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 I don't think the Dewy vs LC classification would pose a problem. I have experience with both.
