11Q13 Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I'm applying to doctoral programs at universities that are a little far for a visit to the campus. Seeing how SBL is a place where all these guys will be at the same place at the same time, is it unusual to ask to meet with them there? I imagine everyone is busy, and scholars will mostly want to chum around with each other rather than the peon graduate students. Anyone have any experience doing this?
sacklunch Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I met a professor at the 2008 SBL here in Boston. I also know of others who have scheduled meetings at both the SBL and AAR. It seems pretty common.
Balatro Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Likewise when interviewing for Yale and Iowa, I met them at SBL and know others that have as well. craprap, foodtruck, tacotruck and 1 other 4
Steven-Michael Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 SBL is a good place to meet folks but it is always nice to have one of your faculty introduce you. Good luck!
