katanianQ Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 did anyone notice a few interviews/acceptances up on the results page for northwestern and I think washu? starting to get butterflies..
catherinian2 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Just to clarify, I was the one to have posted the Northwestern, WashU, and MSU results. I did not apply to any of these programs, but candidates on other communities have started to notify, so I'm passing the word along. Northwestern: phone interviews, scheduled for this weekend. Traditionally, Northwestern only accepts students that they interview. No wait list last year, probably none this year. WashU: fly-in accepted student weekend the first week of March. Comp Lit has also started to notify. MSU: I'm reporting a friend's results. Her circumstances are unusual, and the notification is unofficial. I'd give it a few more weeks for the official notice.
CAPoliSciPhD Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 any communities that are public and you'd care to share?
katanianQ Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 any communities that are public and you'd care to share? yeah, I second! Please give me more websites that I can check neurotically
rising_star Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 probably community.livejournal.com/who_got_in on its English 2009 page. And the wgi lounge for 2009.
katanianQ Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 according to the results page, apparently someone has heard from Duke. Has anyone else here??
wheel_of_fire Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 UNC-Chapel Hill has already sent out acceptance emails as well.
orinincandenza Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I hear that. Bummer, nine more for me. I really don't know if hanging on every last bit of news is doing me more good than harm. I feel sick.
commoner Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 It's not even February yet. You may not get notices until mid-March. It's time to relax and not think about it or you may lose it. OK. Easier said than done. Which is why I'm here, right? None of the schools I've applied to have ever notified before mid-Feb. But I'm checking daily, right? Yes, let's all relax. Yes. Relax. Yes.
Minnesotan Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I would hold off on the despair for now. You never know until you get the letter/call/email.
katanianQ Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 That's very true. All of the waiting is hard to take though!
Boz Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Only two more days of January--you know what that means! It will be February and our neurotic obsessing will become justified as the notifications really start to roll in! Ahhh!
indy4ever Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 OK. Easier said than done. Which is why I'm here, right? None of the schools I've applied to have ever notified before mid-Feb. But I'm checking daily, right? That's me exactly! I start work at a magazine on Monday, hopefully that will distract me for a while. Or maybe I just won't do any work because I will be on this site all day... Uh oh.
bowdoinstudent Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Just got accepted into U of lllinois at Champaign Urbana!! Whooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sibilance7 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Congrats on the UIUC acceptance! Just to verify - it came via the postal service? They notified via email last year, so I'm wondering if things changed?
bowdoinstudent Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Yeah, it came via postal mail. It was dated Jan 26th, but I just received it.
lauras Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Awesome! That's a great school! You must be thrilled to start off with such a strong +1! UVA notified at the begining of February last year, so I guess UVA hopefulls are up next
orinincandenza Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Congrats on UIUC! My undergrad alma mater. I wish I'd had a chance to take more English classes there; I switched to English after my sophomore year.
catalyst1 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I received a personalized email of offer (PhD English) from UNC Chapel Hill around 3 hours ago. Very happy . I am an international student with full scholarship already so I didn't apply for any funding. I heard that 17 people got in the PhD program. I wish everyone luck! Fingers crossed.

Congratualtions! UNC is definitely the "top reach" dream school on my list. Does anyone know if UNC has a waitlist? I mean, i haven't received a rejection letter from UNC so I can still only hope for the best (a mere possibility).

wheel_of_fire Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I've noticed that at least two people have posted acceptances from University of Virginia on the main grad school acceptance site. I applied the UVA's PhD program in English but haven't heard anything yet--I'm wondering if this is tantamount to a rejection? Does anyone have more info about UVA and/or the subfields that these people have been accepted to?
Yellow#5 Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Make sure, when you're searching for English results you search for Literature as well as English. I've noticed several people with rejections have entered their field as Lit. or Literature. Sorry, no news on UVA. I'm waiting on them just like everyone else on this board, it seems.
