Sarahmarie Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Anyone have any thoughts on which is the better program in terms of faculty, class size, etc?
YellowSubmarine Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 If you search around here and around other forums, there are a ton of threads about the programs, with a wide range of responses. They're two of the most popular programs to apply to, it seems. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/archive/index.php/t-511501.html Personally, I haven't talked to anyone in any of the programs but I'm sure if you call the programs you'd be able to get the names of a few students in the school to talk to (or you could do the research yourself, find a few in a fb group and message them, etc). I'm working on the applications for both programs right now, myself... Is it true that neither of them need GRE scores? That just seems strange.
Sarahmarie Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 The GRE issue is true! I had professors look at me like I was crazy when I told them. Of course it is for the masters only. PhD applicants still have to submit the GRE. I have tried the "finding students" idea...I gave up after a few people didn't respond. Plus I have just been so tied up with getting all my apps finished plus my classes this term I haven't had the time to pursue it at length. Even though I am applying to other schools...I am just so intrigued by going to school in NYC I have already downloaded subway map applications to my i Touch, etc. Thanks for the forum link!
Gvh Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Hey rugox, Fellow MHC applicant here As Sarahmarie already knows, there is a good book by the APA that has really detailed info on all the MHC and psychological counseling programs accredited by them - it's called Graduate Study in Psychology 2012, and you can get it on Amazon for like $17.It gives info on past applicant pools, rates of acceptance, what graduates end up doing after graduating etc. GIven, it only has APA accredited programs and not CACREP ones, but it does give an idea of what insider info on MHC programs is like generally.
rosacanina Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Hi guys, I also applied to both of these programs. Anyone know when they will start notifying you of the decisions?
Sarahmarie Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 My understanding is mid-March for both. That's what I got from the TC online admissions chat and an email with grad admissions at NYU.
FutureDrT Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Anyone have any thoughts on which is the better program in terms of faculty, class size, etc? Where you accepted into Columbia' s Ed.M in Psychological Counseling Program? If so when did you send in you application and hear back from them
Sarahmarie Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 Where you accepted into Columbia' s Ed.M in Psychological Counseling Program? If so when did you send in you application and hear back from them Yes I was accepted. I applied in November and I got my email about 2 weeks ago. You can check your application online to see if a decision has been made Good luck!
