I applied under Biogeochemistry. Never heard if they were done calling out, sorry. Website login never changed though.

I had a friend who got it. Last name starts with A. I have not heard anything yet :(

They only gave out 50 awards for 1300 or so applicants, so it was a small pool. Actually found a report for FY 2012 spending that says only 50 were going to be chosen. Glad I didn't see this as I would probably not have applied. So if anyone thought it was a ruse, this thread was just a bit dead this year compared to the last time, and I think that less awards (<4%) has made the thread slow.

From what I've read, they're supposed to give out about 150 awards each year, not 50. I found a FY2012 spending report as well, but it says that there will be 150 new fellowships. Can you provide a link to the report you looked at?

From what I've read, DOE picks alternates also, so they are probably waiting to hear back from those selected to see if they are taking it. That is probably why no emails have gone out yet. usf2242- did they give you a deadline for when you need to accept the fellowship?

The report is at : http://www.cfo.doe.g...ent/volume4.pdf

If you go down to page 314, they provide some details. We have not received the final package to sign but I am thinking pretty soon for the deadline.

Thanks for the article...but I'm still a little confused though. This document never mentions the graduate fellowship program, so where did your figure of only 50 fellows come from?

Never mind, I found the information on page 320 of the document. This really stinks...only 50 fellows this year! Ugh. Well then I know where I probably stand, although I wish they'd just email the rejections already so I could move on. Congrats to all those who got it!

By reading that document, was this application the last cycle to get in on the fellowship? There's no request for funds for new fellowships in 2013. Or are they not requesting funds due to politics?

So the DOE isn't going to reject anyone until everyone who has a recieved an offer formally accepts or rejects it? It seems obsurd they don't just rejected everyone except for a handful of people that might be alternates.

The deadline to accept the award is May 8, so by Tuesday they should have the list of people accepting. When I applied first time around, as an undergrad senior, it took a while to get the email after people posted on here about getting the call.

Late to the current posts, but I figure I might as well comment for the next time they do applications.

I'm guessing they call the East Coast first because of time zone issues.

Note, they won't leave a message. However, they do their best to set up a phone call (email, etc) if they can't reach you.

I suspect if they sent out emails to everyone but the waitlist, they would end up with a flurry of calls from the waitlist wondering if something went wrong with their application.

It seems like they try to carve out funding for this program when they can. Here's hoping they can open it up again next year!

Has anyone heard from DOE about this fellowship yet? No word yet for me, I applied under BER- Biological and Environmental Research.

Someone in my program found out he got the award a week or two ago (and so did someone on this forum, according to a different thread). I think they're doing the same thing as NDSEG, where they tell awardees and wait to see who accepts before informing anyone else. Annoying.

I also got that email... did anyone get a straight up rejection or is the DOE just trying to make everyone feel "good"?

I doubt they are trying to make people feel good, I am sure they have no problem saying you weren't selected. I bet it's something you could put on your resume too, like an NSF honorable mention
