So I got on the wait list for my program in MS in Conflict Analysis & Resolution Master's International program with Peace Corps at George Mason University.

In a way normally they said most applicants get into their program then join the peace corps. But I got nominated for the Peace Corps prior to applying for this program. I applied for the program in July. This is a long time playing the waiting game. I found out I was on the waiting list this Monday. Within the e-mail they said I will be considered for openings in the program after December, 15th 2012. I was shocked!! That's a whole year!!, and Peace Corps is waiting to hear the results of rather I was accepted or rejected. As this affects my placement. I was curious, but could that be a typo, and they really meant to say December 15th 2011? It wouldn't make any sense. Likewise I feel if it is accurate they are punishing me for applying for the Spring semester instead of the Fall semester. I know you can say "you should have applied for Fall 2011 instead" but that was and is stilll an unreasonable expectation due to personal circumstances of the year (tsunami in Japan dashed my job hunting dreams, university had me return to graduate into the US market jobless. Anyway I looked into this program after I was nominated into Peace Corps because I wouldn't be leaving until another year, and this was after I had went through all of the clearances.) Sooo with the circumstances being what it is. They want me to expect that it is a realistic thing to just wait until after Dec. 15th 2012.

Anyway I wanted to post this to get some advice as what to do. Seeing with the current knowledge I know from the acceptance letter I won't be considered for Fall 2012 either.

When does the program you're applying to start? Spring 2013? I was waitlisted for my program and could have been notified of acceptance up until the start date, which was September 6, 2011. If the start date isn't until Spring 2013, I'd say it is reasonable that you could be notified after December 15, 2012. However, if you are supposed to start in Spring 2012, I'd say it could be a typo.

Most schools give the acceptances a set time to accept/reject offers and then send out a mass round of waitlist acceptances once they know how many they need..

It starts Spring 2012. I too am under the strong impression that this is just a typo. I will need to notify Peace Corps regardless as they really have worked with me and very hard to keep my application active. decisions, and choices. Will it help if I send additional material, or contact them to confirm that December 15 2012 is a typo?

Definitely contact them, as soon as possible. You can telll them you need clarification for the peace corps. Also ask if you can apply for 2012 fall rather than wait for a year. Actually because there is another fall admission date between now and 2012 spring this sounds like a typo to me.

Fantastic! That waiting game is pretty awful, but when it works out it really works out.
