dispositif Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Anyone else here applying to HistCon this season? If so, where else are you applying? My work (Crit Theory & Education) is interdisciplinary, so I have U. Minnesota's CSDS, but also Edu programs at Berkeley (Rhet, I decided, was too competitive, and they only applications to one program per season), Illinois Urbana-Champaigne, and Vanderbilt. Politics @ Surrey in the UK, too, depending on how American admissions pan out. Given the program's history, I won't be surprised if HistCon offers more than a couple of admissions this year, though their site claims the department to be viable.
koolherc Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 hey! i also took a shot at HistCon, Minn's CSDS, but also some others. you hear from any yet?
locsofgold Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 What was it? The HistCon was one of the ones I wish I had applied (along with USC American Studies), but didn't because I feel like you can apply to too many schools (and when I looked into it 2 years ago I got the feeling they had very very little funding). Still, I want to know the response....
locsofgold Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I don't know. It sounds like an acceptance to me.... or a wait-list, so also the list of people who are accepted or could be accepted if others fall through.
SgtExposition Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 From what I understand through a prof who did their PhD there back in the day, UCSC's been trying to phase HistCon out for awhile now, so funding is tight. Thus, I wouldn't be surprised if the admin higher-ups have put the pressure on them to also shrink the grad student pool down.
