indalomena Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 It just occurred to me that I haven't seen much mention of Northwestern on this forum. So, is anyone else getting into panic mode with the fast-approaching deadline? This is the earliest deadline for me, and consequently the most work, as I'll probably be using the same writing sample everywhere else I'm applying.
MinervasOwl Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Hi, I applied to Northwestern but my deadline was 1st December- (phd Communication) It was nice getting it out of the way
indalomena Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 yeah, after today I think applications will feel much easier. Shame this one will probably be a little rough round the edges. (also my recommendations aren't all in yet... scary!)
rainy_day Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) I submitted to Northwestern! I was super proud of myself for getting everything in a few days early...and then I found 3 typos in my sop and realized they had a word limit, which I'd exceeded by 150 words. Yikes. Really wish I waited until the next morning to hit submit! Good luck! The whole process definitely does get easier once you've done one, but I'm still finding myself editing my sop extensively between applications (beyond the fit paragraph). So much for being "done" with anyone part. Edited December 11, 2011 by rainy_day
indalomena Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 tell me about it! The Northwestern SOP is TINY! It's killing me! I'm 39 words over at the moment, I wonder how strict they are...
Phil Sparrow Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) I'm 39 words over at the moment, I wonder how strict they are... Historically, they are not very. Don't stress! Edited December 11, 2011 by Phil Sparrow
indalomena Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 yay, cut it to 11 over. Really probably shouldn't be agonising so much about the little things But then, at this stage there's not much you can really do about the big things. It's all I've got to help me feel in control!!
perrykm2 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I didn't apply, but my friend goes to Northwestern now and she seems to really enjoy it.
ferhin Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I applied to Northwestern. I submitted my application last week Monday. Now, I am panicking. I don't know if I can do this for 3-5 months.
desipoet Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I applied to NW and I had the same problem with the SOP word count and proofing! From what I gather, it shouldn't matter--the proofing errors or going over by a couple of hundred words. I spoke to someone who is in the Poetics program and she speaks very highly of the faculty and the program.
bellefast Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 I am not in this forum but I live in Chicago and northwestern is a great school. (I don't go there btw and wouldn't want to) But it is good for what it does. Good luck all
