MSW Hopeful - Applying to State Schools

College: UC Davis

Major/GPA: Psychology 3.2 Overall (3.4 last 90-units)

MSW Programs: CS East Bay, Chico, CS LA, Sac State, SJSU

Experience: Worked in Lab - Contacting foster youth (Survey Based) 1-year and continuing, Suicide Prevention Hotline Counselor 1-year and continuing

LoR: 1 Academic, 2 Professional

SoP: Good to go.

I will be sending my applications beginning Jan. I'm just so freaking nervous about not getting into any of these schools. I really want to attend Sac State or Chico. What do you guys think?

I applied to SJSU too. I'm worried as well, especially because Cal States are known for their slow notifications & last year I was waitlisted, then denied from CSULB.

You're stats are impressive I think you're going to get accepted to all programs

How long after you were waitlisted did CSULB give you their final decision? Is waitlisting the same thing as "pending status"? The reason I ask is because I was placed in pending status in December...I'm wondering how long I have to wait this out. :-/

I spoke to someone at CSULB regarding pending status. What she said was... Pending status is NOT the same as being wait listed. Basically they do some kind of average via gpa, application score, and other variables. Once they come up with the number, they calculate eveyone's average. If you fall within or above that average number you will receive an email (mass email). Once you receive the email, it becomes first come first serve. All of this is based on if they have space available in June/July. I hope what I am saying makes sense.

Last year I submitted my app the last day possible (FAIL) and that was in March, I was officially denied admission like July 15th. I can't remember when I got waitlisted though, if I'm remembering correctly they say they give you the official answer 8-15 weeks after you get waitlisted. My decision came in week 14.

Mercedes, the Admin for the department said pendin status would not be available until June/July.

Future MSW, like you I waiting until the last day and was denied entrance. This year I turned in my app two weeks after the app acceptance period began. During the informational, we were encouraged to get our apps in early.

Dang, i turned my applications a day before they are due. I asked the receptionist for Sac State if they do rolling admissions, he said they do not. So turning you application early or last day really does not matter for some schools. Im just nervous i really want to get into the Sac State program, my resources are all here! ill let everyone know of the decision as soon as they let me know....
