  1. I was in the same predicament, however I actually emailed Dr. Goldman to ask when we would be notified. He sent me an email back saying that I wouldn't be offered admission and "best of luck on my professional career"...... I don't understand how I didn't at least get waitlisted, am I wrong to think I am a competitive applicant because I was accepted to NYU? & my "mySJSU" still says my application is "referred to grad department" (pending review) so I'm wondering what's really going on...
  2. OK, That makes me feel a little better. I pray I'm in the accepted stack! lol
  3. I'm not understanding how you don't understand that you have an elitist (definition: The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources. example: those with the highest GPA deserve automatic and first admission to the university....) disposition. And you were definitely disrespectful to others, how is referring to someone as a dimwitted student not an attack? Yes, you stated your opinion, which is your right, but your opinion was super insensitive, so I gave you my opinion on your opinion.
  4. I was admitted as well, but don't know if I'll be attending because of the price tag. Do any students in the 2 year MSW program work part time jobs?
  5. Still haven't heard anything from San Jose State
  6. This post is SO problematic & offensive. Having an elitist deposition is DEFINITELY going to be a positive characteristic in your Social Work career!! Congrats on having a "much higher gpa than the people getting accepted at the schools I applied to." FYI: I applied to CSULB last year and admissions told me the average applicant that was accepted had at least 1000 hours of social work related experience. -Signed: one of those dimwitted, accepted, students TWO SNAPS FOR THIS!!
  7. When did you submit your application? & what are your stats if I may ask?
  8. CONGRATS Y'ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm excited for you all!!!!!!!!
  9. "Wait... why are you getting your Masters in Social Work if you did your undergrad was in Economics?" "Why do you want to be a Social Worker?"
  10. 1. Become a certifed American Sign Language 2. Become a certifed Spanish interpreter 3. earn my PhD in Counseling Psychology 4. get published somewhere. 5. do research on racial identity 6. Be the best community college professor EVER
  11. If I get accepted I'm going to: cry, buy new clothes, get drunk, cry some more, probably make out with someone, & go to church and thank God. In no particular order.
  12. I applied to SJSU & NYU. My GPA is subpar but I'm hoping my experience and essay will overshawdow my GPA. My stats are: Undergraduate GPA: 2.7, taking courses at a local JC to raise my GPA (I majored in Economics/ Administrative Studies) GRE: No GRE scores, I am going to take them this spring. Neither programs require the GRE test. Social Work related experience: -I was employed at two after school programs servicing high-risk minority students for two years. -I am currently employed as a behavioral instructor teaching children with autism behavioral skills, since Dec 2011. -I have been mentor in a mentor program that services high-risk teenagers since May 2009. -I am currently (since summer 2010) the youth Vice President at my religious institution, where I create and facilitate quarterly programs for high-risk youth ages zero-20 designed for educational, spiritual, and social advancement as well as recreational enjoyment. - Child Care Worker (since 2006) I monitor children ages zero-six and nurture, teach, and care for children who have not yet entered kindergarten. In addition to attending to children's health, safety, and nutrition,I organize activities and implement curricula that stimulate children's physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth. -Employed as an adaptive P.E instructional aid in January Uniqueness: -I know American Sign Language, I am not fluent, but I can communicate effectively. And I am currently furthering my education. -I have strong references (compliments of CSULB admission committee) [2 professional references - 1 academic reference] -I have strong writing skills (compliments of CSULB admission committee) -Lastly, I am a 22-year-old Pan-African male. & I want to concentrate in school Social Work, that is why a lot of my experience is academic based/ related.
  13. I like this forum. Last year I was waitlisted then rejected from CSULB for social work, before that I had never been rejected from a university. After that experience I've now lost all faith the competitiveness of my application. I applied to two schools this year SJSU and NYU, I haven't heard anything but I'm expecting rejections from both due to CSULB.....
  14. Last year I submitted my app the last day possible (FAIL) and that was in March, I was officially denied admission like July 15th. I can't remember when I got waitlisted though, if I'm remembering correctly they say they give you the official answer 8-15 weeks after you get waitlisted. My decision came in week 14.
