Timshel Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Okay, so I am a little confused about the GPA calculation on the UF application, and I can't seem to find an email address on the website of who to contact about my question. The explanation of the GPA calculator states "While GPA will be verified by the university, an accurate self-reported GPA expedites the admission process. Junior and senior-level study refers to course work taken after the term in which you earned 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours. These courses generally are taken in the third and fourth years of study, and continue until you graduate with a baccalaureate (B.A. or B.S.) degree." Which makes me feel like they just wanted the grades from my junior and senior year until I see this: "Your calculation should include all completed course work, excluding dropped courses and courses that did not award letter grades (e.g., satisfactory/unsatisfactory grades). If you have repeated a course, you must include both grades in your calculation." So now I am confused. Do I report EVERY undergrad class or just the junior and senior years? And, am I to assume they don't want my graduate school GPA from when I got my Master's? Do anyone know or can anyone tell me who to contact about this? Ugh. So confusing.
lolopixie Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Call the department. I can't remember the woman's name, but the graduate secretary is very helpful there. She was quite informative when I called last year. 352-392-6650

I hate that EVERY application seems to have some hidden confusing aspect. I know a few of you have already completed this application. What did you do?
Mistral Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I calculated my gpa for my last 60 undergraduate, graded credits. I wasn't exactly sure what to do either, but that was my interpretation. The department cover sheet asks for your undergrad and graduate GPAs, so you can give them your grad gpa there.
Venti White Choc. Mocha Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I’m pretty sure I misunderstood and did it wrong. It’s on my list of things to call about. I calculated my junior and senior GPA for another application, so I just input the number. They’ve got a huge packet from me with everything they could ever dream of knowing. Short of putting myself in a fedex box, I can’t think they really need anything else.
Venti White Choc. Mocha Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Has anyone else contacted their faculty members yet? I'm trying to go on a visit.
Mistral Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 hmm... I think I calculated the last 60 graded credits instead of the "course work taken after the term in which you earned 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours." My calculation may be slightly off... It sounds like your calculation of jr./sr. grades is probably correct, Venti White Choc. Mocha.
Timshel Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 I'm wondering if I should call and ask someone about it, or just go ahead and put the courses I took after my first 60 credit hours........I really want to get this application done, but at the same time, I am really hesitant to call because I hate calling people about stuff like this.......
Timshel Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 All right, I just included my last two years of school, which are also my the 4 semesters AFTER the semester where I received 60 credits. I can't keep obsessing over it. I submitted the application, so I just need to mail the writing sample and be done with it.
Mistral Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I think you'll be fine with that, Timshel. I looked at mine again, and my gpa after my first 60 credits is the same as my last 60 credits (which is how I calculated it before), so I think I'll be okay. Oh, and I decided to send my 19 pg. paper, too.

cquin Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I know this is a bit too late, but if you still have doubts, reach out to Kathy Williams in the department. Extremely friendly and helpful-- kcwill [at] UFL [dot] edu
cquin Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 While on the topic of UF... (This is so minor but it bothers the hell out of me) Did anyone else have difficulty printing out the cover sheet? It's formatted oddly and my printer hates it.

Yeah, some of the words were slanted and got cut off. After printing it twice and it doing the same thing, I said F it and sent it as is.
Venti White Choc. Mocha Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Yeah, and I tried to transport it into a word document to make it look more cohesive, and found that it produced the opposite effect. I altered the printing parameters in order to make the damn thing legible.
Venti White Choc. Mocha Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 HAHA we went in oposite directions, I sent them my fourteen pager.
marlowe23 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Late, I know, but has anyone else had problems with the online recommendation system? All of my recommenders are (just now) stating they never received e-mails. Even when I resend them -- nothing. Any thoughts? When I try to call "all representatives are busy."

All of my recommenders are (just now) stating they never received e-mails. Even when I resend them -- nothing. Any thoughts? When I try to call "all representatives are busy." I'm not sure because I just submitted my application. I did email my LORs and told them to let me know if they didn't receive the LOR request, and none have said anything. I need to check on that.
Timshel Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 Okay, so I just checked mine, and it's showing that one of the LOR was uploaded today, so I guess I didn't have that problem.
nyfilmfest Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 While on the topic of UF... (This is so minor but it bothers the hell out of me) Did anyone else have difficulty printing out the cover sheet? It's formatted oddly and my printer hates it. Yeah... It looked dreadful for me too, but I am sure they all look dreadful. At least their application fee is $31.50 or something. I am willing to put up with things like that, given that comparatively reasonable fee. Regarding the LoR question, none of my recommenders ran into a problem, but e-mail requests aren't generated until the application is submitted, so maybe there's an issue there?
marlowe23 Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I just figured it out; when I resent them for the third time they got there. Just in time! Thanks, though.
Venti White Choc. Mocha Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 marlowe23, timshel, lolopixie, and I. NC is dominating this thread...
Mistral Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 marlowe23, timshel, lolopixie, and I. NC is dominating this thread... One more here !
marlowe23 Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Really? That's bittersweet for me; I didn't apply to any schools in NC, even though I've been in school here for 6 years now. I'm applying to two schools in TN though so, still relatively close! I'm in Boone now -- where is everyone else?
