Thanks for the news, andsoitgoes! Hopefully this means they're on their way to notifying (and perhaps your letter was just a formality)!

Thanks andsoitgoes! I hope it means good things for you, and for all of us.

Although if admits/rejections go out that Tuesday, and UW-Madison says we should know by that Tuesday (the 21st) I literally might die of waiting anxiety next week. Aaaargh!

Dorinda, I see you've been accepted to both Chicago and Duke. Congrats! I did my MA at Chicago and was so close at Duke last year. Alas, not meant to be, but you're area isn't much later than mine. Are you wanting to work with Strier and Scodel at Chicago and/or Quilligan at Duke?

I'm not really following to this convo, but I just wanna say that Strier is an excellent prof. Really nice guy, very open intellectually, and supportive. Also has a boyish excitement about his field, which is always great. That is all.

I think I've already died of waiting anxiety. My poor, withered soul.

Ps. A TON of people I recently worked with got their rhet/comp MA's from SFSU. I know you said you were more interested in language/linguistics, but is that the program you're looking into? If so, I've heard nothing but praise for it from them, and they're all awesome, impressively informed, and extremely passionate people, so I can't imagine the program churning out anything but (unfortunately that's all I've got, sorry for the disappointing lack of deeper insight).

Can answer my own earlier question since I've just heard from Columbia, and the news is good. Totally ecstatic. Good luck to everyone and congrats to everyone who's already been admitted.

Yeah, Strier is great. He was my MA thesis advisor, and I learned a lot from him. He's also a really great professor. Bradin Cormack is also really nice. I love Quilligan's work. I work on gender and epic poetry, particularly Spenser and Ariosto, so I'm jealous of your acceptances ;) Congrats!

Uchicago folks--what can you tell me about Leela Gandhi? She is my POI and she was travelling when we corresponded, so I am still entertaining some last minute delusions of possibly being waitlisted or something.

I had a friend who took a class from her and worked with her on her MA thesis. She really liked her. I only met her like once, but she's very nice and, of course, brilliant.

*Jealous* Now I really want someone to back out so I can get a shot. (Yeah, like I'm first on the waitlist :( ).

Back to the top for the weekend drunken revelry talk.

I got in! Even if I'm unfunded I'm getting hammered tonight. There are a few bottles of wine around here with my name all over them...

You are still rolling 100% for the year, aren't you? NICEEEEE

It's eerily quiet so far today.......

I know. Of course, it's been eerily quiet for me for several weeks now. I think a majority of my schools start to notify next week and the week after. I don't know if I want it to start yet. It's nice to see so many people having such tremendous success. Now I'm worried that I'll be the only one not to get accepted anywhere. Sheesh... just one that's all I'm asking.

YES. I think if I don't hear anything today, and have to go into another weekend without news, I might just go crazy. Even a rejection is better than silence!

Hahaha yeah buddy!

I'm both shocked that I got into two excellent programs and shocked that I'm still feeling gloomy about the potential outcome. Fuck pessimism, I'm gonna go take the longest hot shower of my life and try to remember how to be human again.

I take that back. Implicit rejections are worse than outright rejections AND silence. Yay!

I have mentioned this already as a particularly frustrating (albeit tangential) part of the application process, but I have started getting all sorts of credit card offers, junk mail, and phone calls from telemarketers.

Before this year, I had never received a marketing call at this number, and my home address is brand new.

It may just be me, but I find it ridiculous that some schools sell our information after essentially extorting us for hundreds!

I keep getting calls from some Tacoma, Washington number. Something about redeeming a cruise giveaway blahblah. At least I didn't apply to any schools near there. If it isn't that it's my alma mater asking for donations, which I find hilarious. Still, every time I wonder, "What if one of my POI's used to live in this area code and it's his/her cell? And, "like an Alzheimer's patient," I pick up the phone...

Ha! I filled out my bracket, as much as possible, on acceptances and rejects. Because not many of my schools are in the tournament, I resorted to blaming/rewarding entire states/sections of the country. If I hadn't heard from a school, they got to the sweet sixteen.
