Congrats to the recipient(s) of the Emory interviews for Comp Lit and English! As an applicant to the Comp Lit program, I am very excited for you (read: jealousjealousjealous).

And also a bit anxious. Does anyone know if Emory sends anything to those who aren't chosen for interviews (tacit rejection?) or do we have to wait and hope that they just forgot to e-mail us...until they reject us outright in February? It's hard to know for sure based on the past years' posted results, though it seems the latter option (with more suffering) fits the pattern.

In any event, it's nice that the first posted 2012 results for "literature" on the board are potentially positive.

I also applied to Emory's Comp Lit program this year, and I looked at past topics in the lit forum here and elsewhere and it sounds like some people got in without ever having been interviewed (I think). Plus there's a waitlist and all, so, at the risk of sounding too optimistic, it's still a possibility that the news you and I may get could still be good!

I wish the schools would post this stuff up. It would make us all feel better.

Yeah, generally. Although I'm not sure I'd want to know the numbers for Duke Lit or Berkeley Rhet.

Thanks for the intel, lolopixie. I suppose darjeelingtea and I will keep some small hope alive for a waitlist.

There's one rejection posted on the results board for Emory, English Fall 2012. Is this real? Seems odd that there's only one, and so early.

If you look right above that post, you will see that that poster made an error and meant to put Northwestern, not Emory.

Has anyone on the waitlist at Emory been rejected or accepted yet? Anyone taken themselves off the waitlist? Still a little ways to go before the 15th, but I'm curious if there has been any movement at all.

I emailed Laura Otis a few days ago inquiring about the status of the wait-list. Here's the relevant information, copied directly from her email:

Our

situation right now is that we've made 13 offers for 8 positions. So far,

three people have accepted, and three have declined. This leaves us with

seven people still deciding and five slots left. I suspect they are going

to wait until close to the 15th to decide. The chances that we'll be

making offers to someone from the waiting list are quite good, and our

waiting list has now been reduced to 10 people including yourself because

of people who have told us they've accepted other offers. Who we take will

depend on who has accepted us, since we'll want a balance among people

from different fields.

Hope that helps!
